Rose - Hostas are my man garden obsession and I also saw and shared that on FB. It describes us perfectly.

That's a new one on me, Ann. A "Man Garden Obsession" sounds pretty good about now. Do you have any to spare? Smiling

And please don't change the spelling - we need a sense of humour to help us through. I think we all have a 'main garden obsession'.

They look good Rose. Do you leave them alone or do you cut back for the Winter? I know a few people that leave the fallen leaves in their gardens, tried it one year but the Winter winds blew almost all back onto the lawn. I do need to improve the soil in the front Hosta bed since the trees seem to deplete it quickly.

I leave them alone and do major clean up in the spring. I have fencing that stops them from going too far.

I cut them all back, dispose of them in city yard waste and douse the base with a 1:10 ammonia-water mixture to discourage slugs and slug eggs and help control foliar nematodes.

I finished all that on the weekend and got all my hostas in pots buried in my veggie garden. I'm way ahead as I'm usually freezing my fingers in November doing that.

Will soon finish editing the last pictures I took and then I"ll post a few more of the late season plants.

I also dispose of my leaves, virtually no problems with slugs

So far, fingers crossed I have not had an issue with moles or voles. I used liquid PlantSkydd during the growing season and the pellatized PlantSkydd during the dormant period, Not sure if it helps, but so far nothing. I also mix a lot of pea gravel in my planting medium

Rose your Tiarella has nice Fall color. Looks like your Vivacious has held some nice streaking. Does Blizzard have much? hard to tell from photo. It is one I have been considering. Most of ones with streaking are a dark green but Blizzard is a lighter color.

Bob, Do you have Justice? It is a very vigorous large streaker. It and Powder Keg and Gunthers Prize are my best at maintaining their streaks. Justice is a lighter one too.

Speaking of Powder Keg, I didn't see any October blooms (it's supposed to bloom in October) so it's safe to say that I no longer have that one!

My Blizzard is more of a lime green/yellow with some streaking. Not as much as it first had, but still has a few leaves with streaks. Vivacious is a nice one. I've had it for several years and it still has some nice streaking in the leaves.
