Yes, and you must water daily since potted soil dries a lot faster than in the ground. Any hosta planted in the sun needs daily watering.
Feed it with high nitrogen.

If possible turn the pot over for the winter.

I have not found anything that I cannot grow in a pot and a lot of times better. Every hosta I get I start them in pots in the sun to get better growth. I lost a few so I started laying them on their side in the winter and that worked. Are you sure you can not just lay it on its side? There is no lifting involved just pushing. Rolling on the floor laughing

Maybe it is why I have good success with growing plants in pots I never use small pots. I love huge pots I can plant up like a garden.

Do you get a lot of thaw and rain in the winter then freezes? That is my problem of hosta deaths. I get a lot of rain and then we freeze so it kills the crown. If you cannot turn it over can you go out after everything freezes and put some leaves in a pot and turn it over the crown of the Hosta put a brick or something heavy on top of the pot so it does not blow off? If you do not have a brick maybe take one of those dry cleaner hangers open it up and make like a dome over the pot to keep it from blowing away.

It was the crown that was rotted after the winter is what killed my Hosta in the pots.

Potted hosta needs to be turned on its side before freezing weather.

May I butt in and ask why turn it on it's side? What does that do for it?

It prevents crown rot due to standing water in the pot during thawing.

Yes I do not have any trouble if they are on their side.

Frilly if you are getting those global warming rains you are going to need some thing to stop all that frozen moisture in the crown.
