I found this thread while looking for something else.

I use the Plantstep program to keep track of my plants. It is a great tool and only costs around $30.00 http://www.plantstep.com/index... (I have no affiliation with Kent, i just love the program.) I use it to keep track of my daylilies. I currently have over 900, so it would be difficult to do so without this.

I also make maps of the daylily beds. Here is a thread where I talk about that: The thread "How do you map your beds?" in Daylilies forum

Hope you find these useful.

Laura's map inspired me to make one of my own. Smiling Plantstep looks great and I am on a severely limited budget. Since I only have about 125-130 daylilies, I used Excel and Publisher to set up a spreadsheet and a photo map.

Publisher is a great program, and so easy to use! What do you do, make a numbered list in Excel and put the numbers on the map?

Something like that. The spreadsheet has name, seller, bloom time, height, and such, plus the URL to an online reference (ATP, DG, etc.) Gave away many of the fans where I had multiples, so the sheet has columns with recipient names and quantities of what was shipped. For Publisher, I hand drew a rough bed outline, wrote in what was where, assigned a number, then inserted the photos in the position where they were located in the bed. Numbered each photo and had the names/keys in a list to the side.

As example, photo of the bed.

Of course, can't find the finished, but this one is with photos roughly in place. (Probably just as well, since the bed has changed now. Whistling )

My goodness! And I thought I was a records fanatic! Hilarious! Very nice! And I really like the way the beds are laid out in that photo! Wish I could do something like that in my front yard, but DH would scream and the pups would destroy it anyway. Sigh.

Forgot about bulbs. Yeah, I dig into mine frequently, too. Whistling On the daylilies, it was as much to keep track of an experiment as anything else. Bought similar colorways to see which ones I liked best and which did well in our growing conditions. The ones not up to snuff are given away. More importantly to my wallet, wanted to make sure those aren't bought again simply because I didn't remember what ones they were! Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing I used to have a phenomenal memory. Example, in the late 70s-early 80s worked at a small town convenience store with gas pumps at a time when car tags were recorded on the credit card slips. Had more than 400 license plate numbers in my head. With the TIA and the MS cognitive changes, and just plain aging, my brain has a thick Teflon coating, so not much gets past to stick inside. Sticking tongue out And you know what? It has been liberating! Less stress, less worries. Proverbial blessing in disguise, where I don't *have* to be the one to keep track of everything. Except my flowers (especially the ones that went bye-bye). Which is a wayyyy different story. nodding nodding nodding So, I don't really have a lot of drive, I think I'm just cheap. Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Hmmmm. If it's not Muscari, I don't know what it would be. That is the only plant that starts growing now for me, which I totally don't understand. Hilarious! But I love the way it spreads:)

The damage that Sandy has done is unimaginable for me. So widespread. Wishing all well and a quick recovery so everyone can get back to normal. I think it is times like these that we really appreciate our family and friends, conveniences that we usually take for granted, and our jobs that we sometimes gripe about. Praying for everyone who has to endure the wrath of this nasty superstorm.

How did you set that up? It looks like it would have to be huge to read the names.

I am about to do some more charting.

Usually I just use a spreadsheet for each bed.

Just went back and looked at his and at Vickie's Excel plan. I like her's as an adjunct to my photo-based Publisher. Think it would be easier for me to set up one like that, as I have at least minimal experience with using Excel and very very little with Paint.
