J&P sent out an e-mail with next season's roses. The ones they're calling hybrid teas are mini-roses. They're calling them hybrid teas and charging $19.95 for them. They really are getting outrageous!

Ambiance, which I bought from Lowe's for $7.95 (full price; not on sale) recently, is one of them.

They're desperate for new customers because they've burned bridges with their old customers, probably. How are you seeing them as minis? I'm at their website and they're not showing the "official" (registration) name. HMF doesn't have either Clouds of Glory or Soft Whispers in their catalog yet.

Now the "New 'Flawless' Salmon Pink Hybrid Tea" (BENrye http://www.helpmefind.com/gard...) does show that it is a teeny rose plant on the J&P site (http://www.jacksonandperkins.c...) but they really shouldn't be calling it a hybrid tea. Not to mention how can they call it "new" when it's been out since '08? I think they got a hold of a bunch of Nor'East stock & decided to pull a fast one on unsuspecting customers. Would that surprise anyone?

zuzu that is pretty. I wish my Lowes had some roses for 7.95. They had a beautiful orange un-named tree rose. I wanted it so bad it just glowed from across the room but I refused to pay 35.00. Rolling on the floor laughing

Cinta - It was probably Judy Garland. That's a common tree rose.

Our Lowes had some Belinda's Dream as a tree rose and I didn't get one. Went back once I came to my senses, and they were all gone. They were in a 3 gallon pot, stood over 36" tall, and were only $24.
I've killed so many tree roses that I just walk on by, normally. This one had a chance of surviving here.

Toni, Clouds of Glory and Soft Whispers weren't in yesterday's e-mail. It was full of roses like Ambiance, Deja Blu (which I actually did buy from Nor'East years ago, when it was still in the retail business), and other minis.

By the way, did you notice the prices of Clouds of Glory and Soft Whispers? $39.95????? For a J&P rose that's guaranteed to disappoint?????

Zuzu - Oh, I didn't get the email. I am no longer on the J&P mailing list.. find them to be too fraudulent. Smiling I refuse to pay over $30 for any rose.. and that'd had to be locally in a 3gal pot or bigger! Seriously! (although I *did* spend $34.99+tax for the Ruby Voodoo that hasn't bloomed, hasn't grown, hasn't done ANYTHING.) I did go onto their website though. I'm thinking that the "NEW" banner on the roses was advertising new for them, not new to the trade... maybe? Ok, so I'm stretching...

Most of the rose sellers use "New" to mean new to their catalog, and in some cases, it means new in the last 2 years, but we carried it years ago and nobody was interested then.
I've also noticed most stopped listing the year of introduction.
I bought Deja Blu this year, and it has full size leaves. The blooms were decent size, and are exactly the color and form I see on the database. It was not labeled mini. There's a thread on Gardenweb about it, about how Bernardella called it a miniflora, even though it looks more like a floribunda. J&P lists it as mini on the website. I did see quite a few minis in their online catalog, some I really want.
They still owe me 6 roses from this year and they have not answered emails or calls. No way do I want bare root roses this time of year, so if they do show up, I'm asking for a refund or disputing the charge to Visa.
