I did see there is a thread for milkweed, but with over 400 posts, well, I just can't slog through that many. So, quick question: If I am able to get this to grow (so far I have had zero luck in my numerous tries), is this a self-seeding plant? I tend to buy perennials singly to see if they thrive for me, then either divide or spread their seed around if I want more. Any secrets to getting this to 'take' - I am in the Pacific NW, loamy acidic soil, site in full sun.

I have Common, Swamp, whirled and butterfly weed, all have spread. My soil is clay alkaline, partial shade.

I think I've planted it 2-3 times, and it has never done well for me. Trying yet again...

Showy milkweed I think is the best for your area. Try that and see what happens. Crossing Fingers! When their flowers die they make a seed pod. In those seed pods of course are seeds. There you can plant more milk weed.

Bonehead,
Here is a picture of seed pods on a milkweed.
Thumb of 2019-07-14/andreamdkell/b4cd07 This one is actually called a butterfly weed.
