I am rather late in doing this as I have had way too many
irons in the fire as they say. Have a lot of catching up to do.

This has been a really dry season for daylilies here, and many
of the photos are lousy with mushy blooms showing where
I have crossed them. I took the photos very much in a run, so
they are what they are.

Thanks Michele, you're up late. LOL. I thought I was the only one
who posts at this hour.

Michele, I received a shipment of plants with rust, and have been
clipping plants and spraying. The plants looked fine for about two weeks, and then
the rust showed its ugly head. I guess their spray regimen fizzled out.
I now have in my arsenal Daconil, Bayer 3 in 1 Rose, Immunox, and the chemical
propiconazole by Ferti-lome bought at Lowes. Do you think these will take care of it?
The propiconazole is a systemic.

Shirlee, it's a 50/50 chance that it will get rid of it for good. You may need to spray them every 2 weeks for awhile. I can't remember where you're located, does your winters get really cold? If so it may kill out the rust this winter if spraying doesn't get it. How many daylilies show signs of rust?

Here's what I would do if I were you...
Cut the infected daylilies down to the white part of the fans (yes I know that is really short). Mix up your systemic and your contact fungicides together at 2 times the instructed ratio. Remember the active ingredient in these are way below professional strength fungicides so it will be ok. I know I'm going to hear it from the non-chemical folks, but this has worked for others. Spray the heck out of the daylilies, totally drench them and the surrounding soil (to get any spores). Then in 2 weeks spray them at the regular mix ratio. Then let them grow out and see if it took care of it.

By the way in case you didn't know, everything you have except the Daconil is a systemic.

Nice photos Shirlee, like the last MITS seedling the best. Before My Eyes will never be the color of the hybidizers picture. When it bloomed here the year it was released I sent Larry a photo because it looked just like yours. He checked what he had not sold and they all looked like yours, He stopped selling it but there were already a lot of them that had been shipped. You do have the correct plant, just not the color we were expecting.

Very nice and nice seedlings too!!!! I think the hybridizers pics of Blue Hippo always look different too. It looks much darker in color growing in the garden than most pics I have seen of it. Now I wonder if Eenie Meanie Jelly Beanie is as pale as the pic shows it as.

I really like the first group of seedlings, the last seedling in this group. Very pretty. The Ocean Child seedling is pretty too!!! You've got some nice babies that will only get better. Congratulatons on many fine seedlings and some beautiful plants.

I like seeing the variation in color of Born to Run. I like the yellow eyed daylily too (whatever its name is). You wonder how that could happen. Did Larry Grace just ship out the wrong plant?.... I like the deep purple seedlings especially PGBxMemphis. Good job on those....I received rusty plants myself this year for the first time ever. If winter doesn't kill the rust outright, I won't fool around with them next year. For now I'm spraying with Banner Maxx just because I have it for my roses already. The summer temperatures going over 90 into the hundred degree range starting this week, will stop the rust until fall without any effort on my part.........Maryl

Thanks Michele for the advice. For some reason, I thought Immunox was a contact
spray. So, no I didn't know everything I have is systemic except for Daconil. Thanks
again.

Our winter, unless it is way milder than this past year, will kill rust. I hate chemical sprays,
and I do mean Hate, but I don't want to lose these plants, so I do what I feel is
necessary to keep them alive. It is a long time before winter, and with the autumn temps rust
will really get bad.

All eleven in this shipment have rust. I have them kind of contained in a makeshift tent, but
rust did spread to some seedlings and a few registered plants nearby before I realized what was going on. I wouldn't call this a heavy infestation, but it may be later. I have another shipment that is in quarantine in pots. They have not shown any sign of disease at all. The affected plants are in the ground, not pots. Our temps have been 88-92 degrees the past
week or so, and signs of rust have nearly disappeared. But I know it is still lurking there.

Thank you Fred for that info. If I had known that before about Before My Eyes, I would
not have bought it. I guess I can stop waiting for it to mature and look blue.

What do you think about these two which are in the same clump but look like
different flowers to me.

I don't think a blossom would change this much from one bloom to the other.
The two blooms were photographed today.
I like both, they are quite large blooms, over 6in.

Cindy, Blue Hippo blooms quite pale for me at times. I think it depends on
the temperatures and amount of rainwater, or maybe just the seasonal
changes in a bloom. Your comments are appreciated. Thank you.

This is a recent more pale bloom, temps 90, getting the yellow edge now.

Tina, Bella Sera has looked the best ever. It is one of few that have done well
this year. I don't have a favorite in this batch of seedlings, but of the registered
ones, I love Born to Run, Bella Sera, Carol Todd, and Crazy Ivan. Carol Todd is much
prettier than the pic. Sometimes I can't get in a position in the bed to photograph them.
Lately, I have been picking off the bloom and sticking it in a shrub to photograph.
Wish I had thought of that before. LOL.

All of these are large flowers. Bella is over 6 inches this year.
Carol Todd is close to 7 inches at times. Born to Run and Crazy Ivan are
6 inches. Dan Mack Mitchell is blooming for the first time this year. The size
is smaller than should be, but it is a very small plant.

Maryl, thanks, and do you see rust returning during the summer when
cold fronts move in as in 80's and rain?
I like the PGB seedling too. The bloom stands out in the bed. Very dark
lavender with blackish purple eye and edge. The large bloom helps
get it noticed also.
