I'm not sure exactly what you mean but I've seen some with wire instead of the typical string type. Those are usually on pro models.

Some grass trimmers have circular saw blades.

Saw blades and wire sort of defeat the purpose of a string trimmer being able to get next to fences and buildings without causing damage, and still sometimes they do. The saw blades normally don't work well for grass, the blade tends to not throw the grass and you just get a clump and a mess, they do great on small saplings. I just forget about the automatic trimmer heads that don't ever seem to work and advance the string manually when needed.

Hi Deb. Just saw your question, I hate string trimmers too. A few years ago I bought one on Amazon by a company called Snow Joe. It is not high end and has plastic blades rather than the string. It works for me. Word of warning - take care with small rocks as the blades can throw one into your Pella French door and that is an expensive fix. Still getting over the shock of that one Blinking Sharon
