Does anyone know a company who sells uv resistant plastic for soil solarization?

Interesting question. Didn't know UV-resistant plastic was necessary for the solarization process. How long do you plan on leaving the plastic in place?

Wouldn't UV resistant plastic be counter productive? I thought the whole idea of solarization was to "cook" the vegetation under it. I thought the best way to do that was to use clear plastic that allowed the light through, but no air. Roll the vegetation so it's flat on the ground. Water it. Cover it with clear plastic and allow it to "steam cook" itself into mush. Or do I have that all wrong?

Because many people have had the plastic break down and get brittle from the sun using normal painters plastic from the hardware store

Although I did resort to buying regular plastic that is supposed to be a little stronger than what I could get at Home Depot

Dpeench, what are you planning to do with the solarized area? I ask because cooking the weeds is also very likely to kill the organisms in the first inch or two of the soil. Deep mulching with wood chips (2" - 6") in the fall around your last frost date would cut down on the weeds in the spring as well as providing carbon to feed the soil life.
