Thread OP

My seedlings are growing well and have a few months left before fall. They are out on the balcony. In winter time it can get very windy and the temperature might go below 8 Celcius. I have read that seedlings should be kept not below 15 C. To shelter them from the wind I have an aquarium but they might need some heating. Do you have any suggestion for heating?

Now I have tried out to have my 6 month seedlings in an aquarium for shelter. I cant have them Indoors because of my 4 cats. They got got mealybugs that I removed with rubbing alchohol. The heating mat didnt work eighter, it was for Indoor use. The temperatur is dropping, I I wonder if I should let they go to winter rest. At the moment the temperature hasnt dropped to 15C but it will soon. Today its a sunny warm day, now in the morning it is 23 C. Thinking

Why not bring your aquarium inside ?

Put your adeniums in the tank - put a light on top - leave light on for about 10 hours a day ...... and that light fixture should block out your cats

cats might play with your adeniums ...but once they have "tasted" adenium sap - that will be the last time they mess with them

Hmmm, might just be a good idea. But I might get problem finding right light. And I had wolly aphides on them due to the enslosure. It was like having them in a greenhouse. Im not shure I should have them in the aquarium.

aquarium lights are sold where-ever they sell aquariums ...... sold to fit the *width* of your tank ....they usually come in 1 bulb, but they are available up to 4-5 bulbs

aquarium lights use florescent bulbs ... these florescent bulbs are available in *grow lights* for plants

In fact, I use 2 aquarium lights, 48" long with 3 plant grow light bulbs that are connected to a timer

aquariums usually have a top to keep fish from jumping out ...except you do not need to use the top - just a light, laid across the top ....using *just the light* will leave gaps at the top to let moisture out ....and keep cats from getting in

for aphids .... spray plants with *insecticidal soap* (be certain - fatty acids are listed on the label) ....spray, let dry then wash dried insecticidal soap off your plants - do not skip that last step
