Keep Dogs Out of Your Pond

By Ridesredmule

Dogs and other animals like to get into ponds. I cover them with wire to keep them out. I place sticks under the wire to hold it up because they do walk on it.

Cat Lover
I had to put netting over my little pond a couple of years ago when after 2 hours most of my new fish had disappeared, wet cat paw marks around the pond told me why! Now that the pond plants have grown they don't bother about the fish any more!

I had a friend who lost all her fish to raccoons.

When my neighbors got themselves a lab puppy (read: water dog), I gave up on trying to keep my small pond and instead transformed it into a pondless water feature with three bubbler stone columns surrounded by various sized rocks and pebble. Everyone wins - it's prettier than the open pond, the dogs still have a source for drinking water, and I'm also seeing birds using it for water/bathing. And, so far, no pond bloom to contend with. I do miss the fish a bit. In exchange, it sounds like I may get tadpoles - lots of spring peepers in/around the water feature.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.
