Once adulthood attained, mayflies live about a day. At that point they've but one purpose, mate; and then, they die.

Ooh, that's really great pics! I don't see the damselflies much, because because it's so dry around here. But we do have dragonflies on occasion. That one looks pretty, with that blue abdomen!

Those are remarkable photos! Dragonflies are so quick... I have lots of "almost" photos of them, and I bet you do too, LOL.

I did finally catch this one sitting still for a moment by a path at Catoctin Zoo... and the other one, another friend created for me! :-)

Jill, good catch at the zoo. Cool artwork (glass?).
Dragons are fast and 'skittery', but if approached slowly may continue to rest undisturbed allowing close range photo op. Another relevant observation is that, when 'skittery', they zoom away but often return to the same spot abandoned. They seem to like to rest on rocks, fences, and old stalks (at least in my garden).

Dragonflies are great! We've got some pics of them on the Gardening for Wildlife Forum too. I was so excited to see a red one after a long time without seeing them!

Actually, that decorative little guy is made from polymer clay, with powdered "pearl" pigment dusted on him before baking & glazing. You can do a technique with polymer clay that's very much like the millifiori (sp?) glass canes... cut slices from the cane and get gorgeous swirls or intricate patterns. Needless to say, Joyanna and I have some of those shiny pigment powders in our polymer clay box now.
