I do know that marigold blooming is affected by day length, and the days are getting much shorter now. That could be a factor. Mine have really slowed down.

Lynda, I've seen Marigolds still in bloom around here, nearly about until Thanksgiving !

I'm hoping these aren't affected too much by day length.
& simply providing adequate direct sun & a warm enough position, will suffice. (After having just watered in some fertilizer.)

Yes, mine have sometimes bloomed that long. Hoping the fertilizer shot will spur them into action. Crossing Fingers!

I sure do hope so !
I've seen some other variety offered, with probably somewhat similarly styled blooms. Just can't recall the name, at the moment.
Likely a mix of colors...

There is one out there called Mummy Yummy, or Yummy Mummy, it's similar to Mission yellow. I think it's available as a mix.

Marigolds are still looking good here. Despite cold and cloudy days. I only grew tall African varieties this year.

still blooming well here

These two different colors on the same stem Shrug!

these picked from the same bush
I think the different colors started showing after a couple very cool nights (37 deg)

Yummy Mummy is on my list now! Summer Hill Seeds lists it as Out of Stock.

I planted Mission Giant Yellow in June, got a few plants out of it and had my first bloom develop at the very end of August. They are just hitting their stride now. They are bent sideways because of the Mexican Sunflower towering over them.

Here is a nice lemony African type from a neighbors garden. I'd like to add this next year. Anyone have any ideas which one it might be? Maybe Lady Primrose? Inca II Primrose?

Not sure of the variety, Loretta. I have been growing First Lady which is a nice light yellow.

Cinda, interesting about the colors, like that. Can't say I've ever seen it before.

Lynda, I think we've managed to get Loretta started on an other one !

Loretta, I used to just buy Inca 1, so I'm not quite so sure it is Inca 2. Possibly it is the other.

Did Gary mention they aren't much affected by day length?
I hope the buds on mine keep getting bigger in this unusually cloudy weather.

Like Frog in a Blender you cant pass up a name like Yummy Mummy. Looks like it is only 12 inches tall, like half the height st least from Mission Giant Yellow. If it was earlier in the season, I would try crossing MGY with Strawberry Blonde.

Loretta, don't know about you, but when I plant something that is is supposed to be 12", it turns out to be 32"! Hilarious! Happens with all my plants. FYI, my garden is in full sun.

My supposed "Giants", are over crowded in a pot, so they're only about a foot tall. If I had sown them earlier, & put them into the ground, plus used regular fertilizer, I'm sure they'd have grown taller.
Probably would have bloomed already, too.
If possible, I just may try that 'Yummy Mummy', next year.
I may end up liking a different color, or some variation in the flowers.
(Edit, to remove an extra letter " r" that jumped in there at the end.)

Lynda, there is such a big difference in plant sizes between my part shade yard and full sun community garden plot.
Shawn I signed in for the email notification when it comes back, if it does.

If it doesn't get back in stock, I think I just may have seen that Marigold offered by a couple of other vendors.
It just becomes more costly on postage, when ordering from numerous sources.

Heard that! I usually order my seed along with the seeds I'm ordering for my Master Gardener Plant sale, and limit the seed buying to two to three companies.

O.K. I decided to read up on those so called "African" Marigolds, & they are rather a bit day length sensitive, after all.
Seems that even Inca II may also be started as early as February, to get about 9 hrs. of daylight, to help induce earlier flowering, for spring sales.
Otherwise, they may just wait until day length is less than 12 hours, to flower, if sown late ! Or, unless they get a sudden increase in day light exposure level. (Obviously, while being old enough to bloom.)
So, it just may be awhile before I get to see flowers on my Mission Yellow. Playing around with the amount of light exposure levels, can even affect their final height, too.
It would have been nice, if my weather would have been cooperative with my attempt to suddenly increase direct exposure to sunlight. (Being mostly cloudy, lately.)

This should be Eskimo just opening. I think it is the only survivor. Someone thought they were being helpful planting my marigolds for me but now I can't be sure which white was which. I had wanted to compare them.

Loretta, very pretty! My Eskimo didn't come up, don't know what happened. Every year I say I will tag them because I plant so many different varieties, but I don't. My mission didn't come up, either. Strawberry blond has been a good grower for me, it comes up every year. One I tried this year was a burpee mix, I liked it very much. This is it below.
