Believe it's Bauhinia galpinii (synonym Bauhinia punctata) if it's a vine-y shrub or shrubby vine. We call it Red African Orchid Bush in my area but other common names are Nasturtium Bauhinia or Pride of De Kaap.

Robert, you need to move some Plumerias over to squeeze this one in Whistling - but it takes up some space!

Wow, you're more 9b than I am - love the palms and landscaping. Yep, plenty of room for a few non-Plumeria plants Hilarious!

These trees get smacked hard in the winters sometime... usually once every 7-8 years we get an arctic blast of 32 in the middle of a 72 degree winter week.

Oh yeah, they're called "Blue Northers" here - 82 to 52 in about 20 minutes. We had a 20 years of 10a winters, then 2 back to back winters with hard freezes. Grumbling Some palms were toast and that's when I lost my in-ground Plumeria.

Bauhinia galpinii for sure for sure. My favorite plant in the world and I don't own one!

Something must be done about that!

Very tough once established. Heat, drought tolerant. Something of a scrambler, but fairly slow growing so never a nuisance. Brick-colored flowers. (I don't know anything else with blooms this color.) Zone 9-10.
