These are from very fresh seed from a pink plant I have. Less than a week from pod to planted. I don't have success like this at home!! This is at the Botanical Gardens where I volunteer two mornings a week.
I started them in individual 'cells', the littlest ones, about an inch across by two inches deep. I used pure peat, very wet. Mixed in some Osmocote, generous dose. Covered the seed with perlite, for easy sprouting. Kept in the shade until babies up, then outside in sun from 8am to one in the afternoon, then well shaded by big trees.
Watered on Tuesdays and Fridays. I would water generously until the peat was soaked, then about an hour later, would soak again with Miracle Grow of some sort.
I just potted up, five days before the photo, into 4 inch pots. Was a bit disappionted in how many. or rather, how few roots there were. They get dry, but not dusty dry between waterings. Days are in the high eighties, and nights 'cool off' to about eighty. 13 hours of day, eleven of night. Keeping them drier now, so the roots have a good chance to fill the pots.
I just might get myself an airconditioner for my bedroom. The fan has a tough time trying to be cool enough for sleeping lately...
Around eighty sprouted.
