I bought this at Home Depot a few weeks ago. Can't find a lot of info on him. Do you think he needs a bigger pot? Do I trim the dented legs? He seems like he is growing because he has these little "cactus shaped" appendages on some of the legs

Yes, its a Dog Tail Cactus

Dog-Tail Cactus (Deamia testudo)

It is an epiphytic cactus so, no, it doesn't need a larger pot and probably never will. They live in hot steamy jungles and climb around in the trees. To be successful at growing Dog Tail Cactus, full sun in the house, dappled sun outside and heat and humidity. The soil must be fast draining so the roots dry quickly but, it likes a little more water than most cactus do.

I bought one from Walmart a couple years ago. I couldn't keep the humidity high enough to keep it looking decent. You have a better chance of that in Florida. They have white flowers in the middle of the night - good luck on ever seeing one. Rolling on the floor laughing

Right. The buds are very large and you won't miss them. It's fun to stay up and watch them open. Photograph the bloom if you can.

If one of the legs are cut off will it continue to grow if I put it in soil?

Yes. Leave it sitting out of soil for a week or so then plant it in barely damp soil. Keep the soil barely damp until roots form - you will know when that happens because the cutting will start to grow.

I wouldn't. This cactus is epiphytic - that pot is big enough forever.

I don't think it's burning. More like a sun tan. Smiling

A family member came over & fell in love with my dogtail. She asked me if she could take some of the legs to grow her own. Is is possible to do that?
Also when she was looking at it the soil was wet but I haven't watered it in a week. Is it possible it's in the wrong type of soil? What kind of soil should it be in so I can let her know.
Thank You!
