Sue sent me a link to a Craig's List notice about roses for sale in Sonoma. The ad said there were more than 4,000 roses for $3.99 each, but the price was even lower if you were buying in quantity -- all the way down to $3 if you bought enough of them.

So, Fallon and I couldn't resist and we drove to Sonoma today to buy some of these roses. OMG -- thousands and thousands of perfectly shaped and incredibly healthy J&P roses, and not one was named. No tags, no labels, no clue. The only ones that were in bloom were a hundred or so Icebergs, but we didn't need any of them.

The guy had bought 12,000 unlabeled roses from J&P and he had no trouble selling most of them while they were in bloom, but now they're in between flushes. There were a lot of buds on them, though, so we might try again next Monday.

That's the most surreal thing I can possibly imagine. It's like a weird dream one might have, consisting of an impossibly strange situation.

omg omg omg, I hate the fact that nothing like that EVER happens here! On July 19th, the Denver Rose Society will have their annual Heritage Rose Walk in one of the oldest cemeteries in Denver and they'll have a sale as well. $16 for snippet roses from High Country Roses because "no other roses grow here in Colorado because we're too high up".

I'm SOOOOOOOOOO jealous!! (except they were J&P & I like Weeks :D )
Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet...

It was surreal, especially after I had envisioned every possible calamity I could imagine: What if the place is closed on Mondays? What if all of the roses have been sold? What if the price has gone up? What if they're sickly plants no one would want? None of those things happened, but I never, never imagined they would all be nameless.
