Interesting article about possible drought effects on hemlock, big leaf maple, and cedars.

When I had the forest guy come for a walk-about, he noted our big 'climbing tree' cedar was showing signs of drought even though it sits in a swale that is often boggy. So, yes, disturbing.

This is my theory: fungicides are to blame. Even if you personally don't spray, the volume of fungicides being used is so great it spreads through wind and water. The fungicides are killing the mycorrhizae fungi that helps plants get through droughts.

We recently went up the gorge, something we haven't done in a few years since the fire devastated the area. I was shock and heart broken to see Oneonta Gorge defoliated. It is lifeless, and off bounds.

All the 'cides' have far reaching effects - mostly bad. Sure they kill whatever you are targeting, but I think you have to look at the bigger picture, which is an interruption to the natural cycle. The domino effect.
