you could put adenium in just about any pot ....
but keep in mind a few things >
adenium do not need much potting medium to be happy ....just a few inches of soil is all that is necessary to anchor the plant in the pot - anything more, isn't necessary ...hence: shallow or azalea pots ....
also - adenium have absolutely no respect for expensive pots .... adenium root systems will break pots as the root system expands - if plastic pots are used - adenium will warp round plastic pots out-of-round in a single growing season - the top of the pot will be more oval than round .....and the plant will need to be "cut" from the pot
if you use pot saucers or dishes under potted adeniums - be sure to keep empty (after watering and especially after rainfall) - never let adenium sit in water - ever
if a plants caudex is soft to the touch ...I would guess that plant is getting too much water (and perhaps has developed root rot) - allow the soil to dry out between watering .... cut back to watering once every 7 to 10 days ....
to check for root rot >
pull plant from the pot ....knock off all the potting media ....while you're doing that, consider when was the last time plants were watered - then feel the potting media ....after x amount of days is soil dry ? or is it dripping wet ?
pots and potting media need to drain away water very quickly .... make sure the pot hole isn't clogged up, restricting water flow out of pot
next examine the roots ...... do you see any roots that are not white ? or do you see dark brownish or black roots, or roots that look slimy / mushy / gooey ? ....if so cut those areas off immediately - that's root rot
if roots look okay ...repot adding rocks, pebbles, poultry grit, bark & twigs .... wait a day or so, then water until water comes out of bottom of pot, then repeat with several watering passes .....
remember this:
in the summer months water adenium like a tropical plant
in the winter months water adenium like a cacti
as summer ends in South/Central AZ ....watch or listen to local weather forecasts... when nights fall into the low 50's or upper 40's....it is time to cease watering and take the plants inside to a sunny location
