I'm used to seeing the birds fighting themselves in the spring AKA nesting season. They sit on the side view mirrors of my car and peck at their reflections...out to chase off that other bird. But this is fall. For about 2 weeks now the mirrors and doors have been covered in poop...also IN the car if I leave the windows open. YUCK This morning I happened to look out the kitchen window and saw a mocking bird in full blown fight mode...no glass on the car was safe including the sun roof!!! Crazy bird...what's up with that this time of year?!?!

That really sucks! I've never had your same experience with birds. The only time I've witnessed a bird fighting his reflection was 25 years ago when a bluebird saw himself in the windows of our home. It was a battle royal! We finally put up a plastic owl to scare him away. As to your car,.... perhaps there is something about it birds find particularly objectionable? The color? the heat up drafts as it sits in the sun? Perhaps the shape reminds them of a bad meal?
Birds are known to have discriminating taste, maybe they are telling you to get a new car? Check with you neighbor to see if their car receives so much fowl attention! :
If nothing else, definitely, roll up your windows!
Maybe you could sit a plastic owl in the back window?

One year we watched a bluebird do the same thing. Every morning for a couple of months during the winter that crazy bluebird would attack the car windows and the windows to the shop. He seemed to be attacking his reflection and he left a mess on the windows.

Maybe he was defending his territory?

I was thinking the same thing because it wasn't mating season and we couldn't figure out why? Still doesn't make sense to me.
