I've had semi-ok success with a few Austin roses here in Long Beach where our summers can be pretty hot and humid. I'll list those in next paragraph.. Abe Darby was constantly riddled with rust, so out he went after year 3. Graham Thomas got enormously tall and hardly had any blooms to speak of so he joined Abe. Queen of Sweden grew well but the blooms blew open and shattered after a day. Mary Rose was also a rust magnet. Ambridge Rose was always very spindly and shattered quickly. too.
The ones that do well for me here are Pat Austin, Darcy Bussell, William Shakespeare 2000, and The Lady Gardener, Lady Emma Hamilton, Teasing Georgia, and Princes Anne. Most of them wilt pretty fast when temps are over 85* but that's understandable since they were bred in England where summers are much cooler. My only gripe with Austin's is that the stems seem too weak to support the big blooms, hence the flopping.
