they are bitter, strong tasting and kind of tough. Not desirable at all but yes edible. Although nothing seems to eat them so they just keep taking over !
I have them also. Not nearly as bad as you but they grow in my garden beds where the soil is looser so I can grab alot of the little bulbs along with the big ones. I'll never eliminate them but I try and keep the numbers down.
