hi,! Yeah, the prices go up and up! I personaly have never paid over $14 for an iris. I just don't feel that waiting a few years for an iris is a big deal! Of course, as I get older, if I want to see them in bloom, maybe I'll not be able to wait till the price goes down!!LOL You should be alright in your zone for quite a while, yet, Jo Ann, I would think. I'm in 5a, and figure i've got 8 weeks of good growing weather, at the very least....Arlyn

Arlyn, are you sure you're 5a, I used to be 5a here in Wisconsin, but with the new Hardiness zones that came out this spring based on new climate data, I'm now 5b. I would think you would be at least that too. Here's a link to the new hardiness zones. http://planthardiness.ars.usda... There's only a small corner of Ill in 5a, I'm not sure where your county is.

Well, I see that a part of the northern side of your county is 5a. Who'd a thunk!

Yep! we're right on the line between 5a &5b, and i think if the guy that drew the map was here in this river valley in the winter, he would have made it 4a, instead! Rolling my eyes. Several days of-20 to -25 almost every year, and we've had the occasional -30, just to keep us on our toes Sticking tongue out !! our oldest and her husband were just transfered to Pewaukee, and they will probably have milder winters than us!...Arlyn

They're looking good Paul! I always say when they start to give you the finger, they are taking root. Or sometimes they give you the peace sign. My best ones are those I planted in Late July or early August. Some of those I planted in June are just now starting to look like they will live.
