Last year I planted some Lucifer seeds in this area. Do these look like Crocosmia seedlings?

Crocosmia have linear leaves, similar to narrow leaved Iris leaves.

Did you sow Hosta seeds?

They do look like little Hosta leaves don't they. There are no Hosta in the area and I've never tried to grow them from seed. This is the spot I planted the Crocosmia seeds on a lark and you can see a Lucifer leaf laying across the photo and looking the worse for lack of rain. I thought I at least recognized most of the weeds here but this one is unfamiliar. I'll post more pics when they've grown a bit.

I certainly have tons of callas and I dump the seed heads where I cut them usually. Could it be plantain? I have tons of that in my "lawn"? Green Grin! Off to find the latin name.

PS. Speaking of callas, here's a beauty I found on one. I've never noticed one before. Any ideas?

The leaves of Plantago major are more coarse than those, I think!

I'm quite sure the bug is a nymph of Chinavia hilaris .. they usually go through five instars and can look very different at each stage.

You have hostas! Even if you didn't sow them, they can travel ..

Chinavia hilaris. Beautiful! Thanks for the link Janet. Should I be concerned?

The Hosta link goes to my fern post.

Yes the Hosta link does go to your fern post, there's a Hosta in the photos! Hilarious!

I wouldn't be too concerned about the shieldbug, I like to see them and they are never in large numbers. They have predators the same as anything else, if you didn't have these then you would not be helping to ensure the survival of both this species as well as other species which rely on them.

We call them shieldbugs, much more fitting than stink bugs. nodding
