I love the windows we have. Keeps the house warm in the winter and cool in the summer, but house plants are out of the question. That's okay though, since I usually kill them without any help from the windows! The only state I've lived in where I had good luck with house plants was in WA. I had a jungle inside! That's why I've had to grow seedlings under grow lights. They will start growing without them, but will soon die without the UV light.

Are they also tinted Natalie? We had to replace a patio door, and it is supposed to
block some of the UV light, but is not tinted. Almost bought the tinted one just for the comfort value
in different seasons, but unfortunately did not. Now you are making me wish I had not changed
my mind. Big Grin

Shirlee, the windows aren't tinted at all. The coating is clear, and we love the windows. I was wishing at the time that we had gotten the tinted ones, but I'm really glad that they are clear. A friend got tinted ones and regrets it now.

Okay Natalie, feel better about my decision now, but if we have to replace
any more doors, I will know not to get the UV ones on the south side.
Thanks for the info on that.

The couple across the street bought new windows for their whole house, a year they bought the house. I knew she brought her geraniums in for the winter that she had in pots, so I told her about the UV problem. They bought the same windows that we have, so I knew it would be an issue for her. She has one window on the south side of the house, and asked her husband to replace that one last. She finally talked him out of replacing that window, because it's the only window where she can have plants! Every fall, she asks me if I have any plants that I want to squeeze in on her little table! I've turned down the offer, but it's so tempting to take her up on it!

I just had a thought! We bought a travel trailer this year, and it is parked on the south side of the house when we aren't using it. I bet it would be a great place to keep some of my smaller daylily seedlings this winter! The only problem is that we bought a cover for it, and I'm pretty sure that it won't let any light in. We haven't put the cover on it yet, but I'm sure it will be dark in there. Hmmm.... gives me something to think about since I can't sleep! I wonder if I can talk my DH into leaving the cover off, or at least roll up part of it so that a window is showing. He's not going to like that idea! Who knows, the travel trailer idea might work. Guess it would depend on how
cold it gets in there, especially at night. Green Grin!

Shirlee, I'm sure it would stay above freezing in there, and if I needed to, I could always turn on the heater. It's just that I'm sure that there will be no light getting in with the cover on. I still might give it a try and see what happens!

It got down to 34 last night, but I think it's supposed to warm up a bit. I wish I had watched the weather report last night. I would have brought the seedlings in for the night. Oh well, if they don't survive, it's their own fault!
