Thread OP

Hello!
This is my first post and it's an emergency unfortunately. 3 months ago I bought an adenium and followed all instructions for care, but apparently I've failed somewhere.
My parrot knocked it over and for some reason it looked a bit squashed on the left and when I touched the root, it was soggy and fragile. The soil was a general cacti mix + adequate ammount of perlite and gravel.
Can this adenium be saved? The whole root just broke off and I cut until there was fresh tissue.

I'd be very thankful if you can give me some insight on this.

what you have there is root rot

the main cause of root rot is over-watering

3rd pic down

keep cutting *narrow* slices off until you see *only* white ....

when all you see is white - stop - lay plant just as it is in pic 3 and allow it to dry out a few days -

while you are waiting for the bottom to dry out ...mix more grit (chicken or poultry grit works really well), bark and twigs in your potting mix

to avoid over-watering and root rot - start a watering schedule ....
when you repot this plant, water in thoroughly ....then do not water again, (with-hold water) for at least 60 to 75 days (as long as 3 months) - mark the day on a calendar & resist the urge to water - excessive watering can kill the plant

also - this may be helpful -

Adeniums have only 2 seasons > wet - and - dry

wet = the active growing season (summer months in the northern hemisphere) water adeniums like a tropical

dry = the dormant season (winter months in the northern hemisphere) treat adeniums like a cacti
