IMPATIENS

Impatiens are always a summer addition to shady spots in our gardens. They are loved by hummingbirds and butterflies. I can't imagine a summer without them. Photos to follow.

Impatiens are uniquely beautiful plants which come in a wide array of sizes and gorgeous colors. They are useful for container planting as well as difficult shady areas where color is needed. Here are some photos of them in containers. The first one is the photo I used for the banner. The containers are old feed tubs salvaged from the farm.

Added note: For interested gardeners there are over 25 pages of impatiens listed in the data base. This would make a good winter project for someone planning for next year.

I'm in agreement with the hummingbirds and butterflies, love Impatiens and fill all nooks, crannies and containers in my garden with them. A very beautiful and fundamental banner! (of course)

Wow, Leon! You really know how to grow impatiens! Thumbs up
How many plants do you put in a tub, and how do you get such a nice
shape? Do you trim it?

Thanks for the extra pics. Very Pretty.

Depending on the variety (i.e. "Super Elfin, New Guinea," etc.) usually from 4 to 6 plants fill a large (20") tub. Smaller containers require only 2 to 3 plants. It's almost an "educated guess", however they fill out nicely over summer without any shaping or cutting. I give them a good feeding in spring with Scotts Osmocote 14-14-14 Slow Release Fertilizer; it lasts all summer. These should do well in your area. Thumbs up

Cal, we have a great Greenhouse/nursery here which start seeds in January/February in six-pack containers. When spring arrives they are transplant size and already in bloom. I especially like the "Elfin Series" which are more compact in size, yet come in a wide choice of colors. They are very economical this way with far less work.

Thanks to everyone for your comments, thumbs and acorns. I will forgo tagging each of you since you know who you are. As always your interest and input are much appreciated. For the thumbs & comments thanks to Cal, Fleur, Casey, Greene, Honeyx4, Barbara, Karen, Leslie, Kurt, Kristi, slowcala, Vic and zuzu. Thanks to Cal, Casey, Fleur & Vic for the acorns!

Next week is a busy week for most everyone with holiday travel & Thanksgiving Day celebrations. Please accept my best wishes for a safe and happy week marked with fun, food & family!

Apologies, Leon. I'm late to the party, but I'm another impatient lover, and did appreciate both the banner and the follow up.

One you may not have found is the variegated impatiens. I grow them yearly and they put on a wonderful display. The car wheel will give you a notion of their size.
