Was out with bronchitis for a month and now crazy busy
hatching out goslings and ducklings.
Roses have yet to be trimmed, weeds up the ying-yang
but rose buds are appearing and its so exciting!
More of my shrub roses are maturing and getting huge.
Can't wait for June!
Lilacs are blooming now.
I think they smell like heaven! Smiling

Yes the Lilacs smell awesome!
So... today hubby and I went to Home Depot for
some remodeling supplies and of course I HAD
to look in the garden center.
Well there were these potted Hybrid Tea roses
from "Blank & Blank" that caused me to become
completely brain dead and forced me put them in my cart.
One would think as I walked through the store
looking for wallpaper sizing and paint brushes
that i would come to my senses and put them back before
checking out but but noooo...Heirloom kept wafting its intoxicating
scent up my nostrils as I walked through the store.
I kept getting blast after blast of its heady fragrance.
I said to my husband "my gooosh...can you smell THAT??!!"
and he just looks at me with the familar...well its Spring and you're
gonna do what you're gonna do no matter how many times you've told yourself "I'll never do that again."
I feel like such a roseaholic.
Well I have to kill a few roses every year or I wouldn't feel normal.

Fresh from Home Depot...
Heirloom, Blue Girl & Iceberg.

You can always try to root them, just in case....

Your lilacs are beautiful. I have two baby ones in pots, not old enough to bloom, yet. I love lilacs in the spring. At least the neighbor grows them and the scent wafts in the window, combined with my honeysuckle.

Yah, me and Hybrid Teas... don't get along.
Maybe I will try planting them by the house and
pampering them a bit and see what happens.

Speaking of Lilacs I just bought these new ones that bloom
thoughout the summer months. Can't wait to see if they really do.

Now if we'd just get some warm weather.
I have tomatoes and basil hiding out in my kitchen and
I sooo need to get some sun on my back and dirt under my finger nails.

Nope...our day time highs have only been in the 50's, plus very windy.
So sick of it!

Not really.
Our last frost date is May 15th but traditionally we don't set out tender plants until May 30th.

about Z5 .... the climate here doesn't fit the zone system, our winters are milder (around z7) but our summers are very cool (around z3)

I wrote an article about the climate here: http://cubits.org/icelandgarde...
