I know that crazy ants do not trail, they, well, yeah, go crazy which makes them hard to find as they are all over the place. Sugar ants trail in a straight line. Do Argentine Ants trail?

After reading till my eyes have crossed, I am sure I have Argentine ants. I googled "Difference in Argentine, raspberry, and crazy ants." our ants trail and they like sugary things. They are bad enough. I don't want the crazy ants ever!

I took care of the ones that got inside the house, but I'm 99% sure we had the raspberry ants. I know I found a big 'ol worker like the one pictured on the TAMU site in one of the bedroom windows last year, and with all the digging I was doing this spring there were plenty of surface nests under empty pots and other construction refuse that was dug up. Thumbs down

I guess you could take a few in a vial of alcohol to the Extension ofc. for IDing. I have ants in most of my pots, large and small. I'm finding them on all the flowering plants. Haven't seen but a few aphids. In the evenings, we see them all over the sidewalks, but they're mostly in trails, not going in circles.

oh gee so much to read ....I am on a mission on fire ants of course and I am so tired of going out to do work in the flower beds and even with gloves on they get me and they get into my shoes
I know there are baits you can use and such but they seem to be to no avail so I searched online more and found "liquid Garlic"
has anyone ever tried it?
it works for skeeters and they say it works for ticks fleas and fire ants as they all do not like the smell of it

I am up for trying almost anything

I just battled the weird of bunch of ants. They came into the house after some spilled bird food. They were a mixture of all sizes! How odd! There were big ones and itty bitty ones and medium ones. After I swept and sprayed on their trail I put out a Terro ant bait by the backdoor where they were coming inside. Haven't seen an ant in over a week. Lowe's about $6.

Phyllis, I'm a huge fan of Spectracide fire ant bait. It takes a few days to really get into the mound, but for me it's always been more effective than Amdro.

Cheryl, you may have had 'big head' ants. Seriously, that's what they're called! The ants are all different sizes, and the only identifying is if one of the workers makes an appearance - and it will have a BIG head!

Big Head ants. OK, that's funny. That is the second funny gardening thing I've heard this week. The first was Bird Poop Caterpiller. I thought the guy was joking! He wasn't. Rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, indeed! People have been comparing the early stages of the Giant Swallowtail caterpillar with bird poop for years! I'd like to see them again someday...they've been missing the last couple of years.

People are finding them on their citrus trees in Houston.

Haven't seen many butterflies for a while...of course, I have nothing blooming right now (that the deer won't eat) Boo!

Here's a website that has a picture of the big-headed ants. Not sure if it's the same genus as the one here in TX, but looks close enough to what I saw!

I got bit by 2 ants while in the garden this week. I kept feeling something on my neck. Sure enough. There's a big red bite on my neck and one on my bicep. Big, red, itchy and swollen. Not a fire ant. I never react to mosquito bites like I did to these bites! GAH! Thumbs down Yeah, give me mosquitoes any time!
