I used to re-read a lot more than I do now. There are just so many books I haven't read that I want to, and so little time! But I have re-read a couple of books recently and was so glad I did because like you Rosie I took in so much more! Smiling

My goodness, you all are reading the kind of books I read in my younger years before babies and birds and flowers entered my life. I just did not take time to read as much as I should have then.I was much happier swimming and just relaxing with a paperback love story. NOW, I have so much time that all I do it seems is listen to my books on Audible. One eye and blurred vision makes reading a book out of the question and so I am so spoiled with my audible on my phone attached to my hearing aids. I recommend this to anyone with disabilities such as mine.

Now I will tell you my secret, I am a total NUT when it comes to mysteries and thrillers.and I am a real fan of David Baldacci. His stories are wonderful in my opinion. He is my favorite.
Sandra Brown, Patricia Cornwell,Nelson DeMille David Ellis and James Patterson, Dean Koontz and J.D.Robb are my favorite authors for this type book. You will find some foul language and lots of violence in some of these books but then living in NJ I am used to that.

I have read nearly 200 books in the past year and the one I just loved most was Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. This one really took my heart..It is a mystery but much more than just suspense and death. Not everyone would like it but I did because it has a surprise ending that no one could figure out.Not even me.

Nelson DeMille's books are so intense and keep you interested I would say he is my second choice and then my favorite is Baldacci. They write about things including Government , politicians, the wars I lived through and Terrorists of today. There is sex and violence but not as much as some of the crappy books.

I guess I am not the normal 91 year old woman but I was raised to hunt, fish, and survive. I lived thru all the wars from WWII until today and have thought seriously of writing my own story but decided since my kids and grandson were still alive, it is best the things that would make my book interesting are things they should never know happened during their lives. All my characters are deceased but some had some "secrets" it is better for everyone they remain secrets.
I hope you have enjoyed my post because I enjoyed all of yours. Your selections bring me back to my younger days. Thank you for sharing. God Bless and have a wonderful day. The sun is bright and there is a bit of chill in the air but we are all alive and hopefully well and have so much to live for. Until later.

It's nice to have you join in the discussion, Jacquie. Stick around!

Isn't it great that we have the technology now for things like audiobooks? My MIL passed away quite a long time ago, but in her later years she was almost totally blind from complications of diabetes. It was terrible when she could no longer read as she had been a voracious reader. Back then, audiobooks were only available on tape, and were very expensive. But I found, in a magazine ad, a service through the library of congress where I could get her some audio versions of popular magazines (on tape or record, I forget which). She really enjoyed having those. And they were free, too.

It looks like the service is still available to those who need it

Welcome, JB!
I have 2 friends who use hearing aides connected through their phones. One lady had hearing aides for years. Just got her 3rd custom pair, $5000, and is learning to connect them with her new phone. It's amazing to watch her face light up when she realizes she can hear and answer calls on her phone, and hear much better!
That is great use of new technology! Glad to hear it enriches your life, too!

JB, it sounds like you could write great stories! Maybe you can write stories based on some of your life experiences, especially since you like mysteries. No one would need to know it was based on true events!

I just read a small book where the author told short stories giving an autobiography of her life. She said some of the stories she wrote to submit to magazines were based on her real-life experiences! Best stories!

Thanks for sharing about your love of books and your love of life! Smiling

Thank you for the warm welcome. I will think about your suggestions. Must get some sun now. Love reading and soaking it up. It is warm here in NJ today so off to the deck to relax for a few minutes. (and read a few chapters) I am deep into a really interesting book . David Baldacci's Absolute Power. It is full of suspense from the beginning. Seems the President of the USA was being a bad boy and it goes on from there. Not a book for people who do not like some sex and violence.

Completed 'The Hunger'; awarded it 5 stars.
Reading 'The Book of M' by Peng Shepherd. Near future world in crisis - People are losing their shadows. Loss of shadow equates with loss of memory.
It's progressive, some swifter than others. There's still some people who have their shadow, but ratio of those to those without is pretty small.
Nothing that's been done can ever be changed.

Always interesting to read your posts!

I like true crime...people and the crap they get into and their devious minds astound me.

I am still reading ( or not reading ) Last Day
We have been so busy.
Hubby got fitted and will get hearing aids Wednesday. They do everything but floss his teeth for him...sure came a long way technology wise

They work with the smart phone.. can do things to the ear pieces via the phone ..I don't pretend to know it all

Still re reading Under the Dome at about 1100 pages this one is taking awhile. Not my favorite of the King books. Overall an interesting idea but almost too many characters with none you really care about that much.

@Rosie, I am sure your husband will love his hearing aids. I am on my second pair of the ones that think for you. My phone and my hearing aids sometimes make me crazy. We have a problem with the WiFi/solar interference due to the military base being just down the street and my hearing aids pick it up. If I am reading and walk into my kitchen, it cuts out and I have to quickly turn off the book until I finish in the kitchen. Then there are days when one of them will just decide to turn up the volume and I have to get the app and have them reprogram again. I would be lost without them but they still pick up everything except what some people are saying. The TV is a problem in my living room with the bar above trying to get a more clear voice. I do still have a pair that I put batteries in just in case I get too frustrated with the new ones. They take some getting used to and I hate new things. I am not good with change.

Keep us posted on his progress with them. Tell him if I can do it he sure can.

Have a good day. I am going to try and get a few reading hours in today outside. It is beautiful and warmer than normal for this time of year.

Larry, I was a big reader when I was younger. Now I think I am doing well to skim the paper and AARP news!

Now I find kids books and public tv to be educational and entertaining!

I have a friend learning to use her new hearing aides with her phone!

I'm watching expedition exploring show. They were trying to do things
the old ways, canoes, etc. They got lost and found their way using a drone!
Always new things to learn! Smiling

Just finished Mark Greaney's "The Gray Man".

Had to struggle thru this one. Too much of the same thing. 2 stars is being generous.

Today was a BIG day in our Bella's life.. we have a few red banner days..
She got her LIBRARY card! She has been asking for it for a while. She is a lover of books.

I am so proud of her and happy for her. I am 67 years old and I STILL remember like it was yesterday the JOY at being in the library.. it was like church. Running my fingers over the binders ...weighing each important choice (only 5 allowed to be checked out) ... I LOVED LOVED my neighborhood library and its millions of wee "tickets" hidden on pages and formed into words all ready and waiting to take me to meet many new friends, travel to exotic lands, and to live in different times... I am so happy Bella will live this experience. Books have never let me down....and when life did, books were always there to whisk me away.

Very cute! How old is she, Rosie?

When I was a kid we didn't have a neighborhood library. Of course, during the school year we had the school library. During the summer, we had the Bookmobile. It was a truck full of books, functioned as a library. It moved from neighborhood to neighborhood. When I got older (maybe 10-12 years old) we could go to the main library in Pittsburgh. Hugh museum attached to it- we loved it! We'd be gone all day, but our parents never worried. It was the norm. Shrug!

Them were the days

We had the library and summers we also had these magazines delivered each month.. soft covers.. I don't recall the name... stories, mazes, coloring, so wonderful. I could not wait for those. My dad also bought Readers Digest Condensed books.. the pages were edged in gold.. I LOVED those. ... my older brother read too.. he was 11 years older than I and so at the age of 10-11 I was reading Ayn Rand and Guy du Maussapant and Playboy!!

Bella will be 8 in September

Congratulations to Bella!!

I remember reading books by flashlight under the covers; while on the other side of the room my sister was doing the same thing. One of those times I remember with some clarity the book was from the Public Library, it was about Greek history. If we walked to school we went right by the library, we usually stopped there on the way back. There were like great pillars at the entrance where admitted. It was, and still must be a source of wonder (at least, to those so inclined).

Finished 'The Book of M'. Wasn't quite as good as I'd anticipated but ok good at 4 stars.
Presently reading 'The Darkness Out of Carthage' by Carl D. Smith. Excellent so fat.

Finished 'The Darkness Out of Carthage' Only 79 pages. Really good; unfortunately, it is the only work listed on Amazon by this author, Carl D Smith. This author should write more!

Started a 'hard' science fiction techno thriller 'Zeroglyph' by Vance Pravat.

Also reading 'Sumerians: A History From Beginning to End' by Henry Freeman
