This is the only one of several I have had to re-identify and I just can not find a thing that would tell me what it is. Please, someone, are your eyes good enough to tell me you recognize it. The leaves are not like gardenia leaves...they are thin and a pale green. More a Jasmine leaf but which one????? I am about to give up.
The flower was about 1 1/2 inches wide. The petals are separated as you see...???????????

I don't think so, Bob, I had a Belle and it died. I don't think I had 2. Here is a shot of the plant. Leaves are beginning to yellow because we had three days of rain and it got too wet on the deck.

Hmmm...could it be "Frostproof", JB? Foliage and flower look very similar.

That is what I thought but the flower petals do not match. This has 8 or 9. I am hoping Logee responds to my question. They sold it to me. So far, nothing. Jerks. Thanks anyhow.

Hmmm. well, I know the flower petals on young, or sickly, plants won't often show as they would on a more mature plant.

I'll keep thinking about it as I walk around this evening closing up shop. I love a good mystery so hope we can solve it! (And no, it is definitely not "Mystery"!) :>)

Dang Dog.................the plant loves hot sun all day. It loves lots of water. It is more like a jasmine than a gardenia I think. Why don't I just name it Mystery and be done with it.

OK.....I am willing to concede that I am wrong once again. Logee says it is a .............are you ready for this?

Gardenia Fortuniana

I do not think it is, but they should know. Oh God, I would love to be right just one time. I would have sworn I never owned a Fortuniana and I purchased it in 2010. <sigh>

Hmmm, those leaves look mighty slender to be a Fortuniana, don't you think? I think they must've only gone by the flower appearance.

Exactly my point Shoe and I wrote back and told them. No comment on their part at this time. I do not need the name because I am not going to propagate it, but I WANT TO KNOW! Now I am just stubborn enough to keep digging. I will keep you posted. My Rads look super and are growing like crazy.

I don't think I am going to cut any Aimees this year. I think the mother plants need a rest and if God be willing, next year they should be full of blooms and then I can begin cutting again. Cutting just takes most of the blooms off and I enjoy them too much to want to keep cutting. My plants are more important to me than the few dollars I get for them. Have a good day.

I'm not certain of the proper place to post this, however I figured fragrance is close enough. I'm interested in plants which flower or do not flower that have lemon or citrus scents as much as possible most of the year. I have a mosquito plant which I think is some kind of gardenia. What other lemony scented plants are around these days?

Hmmm...lemon scents?

I'd recommend Lemon Balm (aka "Melissa"), very easy to grow and use. And I always grow Lemon Verbena each years as well; excellent for teas and potpourri.

Lemon beebalm (not to be confused with Lemon balm, different genus) might be interesting to you as well, dogpack.

I grew Lemon Basil one year but wasn't overly impressed with it, too. And each year I grow Lemon Grass, mostly for customers who expect me to offer it each year. I've done nothing with it except cook a few Oriental meals some years but PLUS last year I weaved ("wove"?) some of the leaves into a braided wand...I meant to light it up once dry to see if it gave off a nice lemon scent. Now where is that thing....

Dogpack, another good lemon scented plant is a shrub called Spicebush (Lindera benzoin) - wonderful lemon scent released when rubbing stems or leaves. It is a woodland understory native in the midwest and makes wonderful berries the birds like - BUT - you must have both a male and female plant for this to happen. Both male and female flower, however. Good luck!

Spicebush grows here in NC also, very pretty when it flowers and then produces the berries. I wouldn't call it lemon scented though, more like vanilla.

dogpack, I grew some of the scented geraniums before, rose geranium and also lemon geranium but they seemed short-lived for me. Perhaps you might have better luck.

I am so glad you got some answers dog because I am not at all into too many different fragrances. I must admit, Shoe, I went into the scented geraniums my self on year and ended up giving them away. The did nothing for me and I spent a good bit of money on those darn plants. Seems some things will grow for me and others will not.

The gardenias you gave me Shoe are blooming again and looking great. The have been in the GH all summer and loving that heat and humidity. I am concerned about this winter. I can not keep the humidity high enough in the GH to keep some of the plants happy.

JB! Shoe! Good to 'see' everyone. Thanks to JB for hollering in my direction so I poked in over here. God love her but I'm no expert, dog.,,she's just overly gracious with her praise. You'll learn more from JB and Shoe than I could even begin to share! Also remember scent is subjective....what's lemon to one might not be another. Looks like the main 2 were suggested already. Let me share a few more that might or might not have a hint of lemon/citrus to your nose. Winter honeysuckle blooms have a lemon scent to my nose as does Butterfly Ginger to a degree. There re those that believe some of the Daphne blooms lean toward a baby powder/lemon mix fragrance. There is a lemon basil as well as a Thyme if you like the herbs. My NOID Crinum that bloomed last week had a hint of a citrus type scent....although telling you NOID doesn't really help much, now does it (photo below). If I think of any more - I'll pop back in. Opps notices Shoe's thoughts on the Lemon Basil. He's probably right...you gotta give those leaves a good rub to get that scent where as the 2 he mentioned have a more pronounced lemon scent
