I had a variegated Caryota for 'one frond' it wasn't a true variegate. This Christmas palm is a true variegate, and the seeds are supposed to come 90% true for variegation

@plantladylin, if you are interested in their history, Phil Bergman wrote an excellent article for Jungle Music Palms about them. He mentions Lynn McCamey in TX...this is the nursery I got the palms I have from. I have 5 varieties. I have been growing them for about 15 years. They are 'pedigreed' in Japan, like dogs are. The result of breeding programs hundreds of years old.

Its here! Variegated Christmas Palm. Seedling (5 sub-adult leaves, about 18"- 2 ft tall overall) nice variegation. The great thing about this palm is that unlike most variegated plants, this one will come true from seed 90% of the time

I am hoping for a fast grower....Christmas palm usually is. I had a non-variegated one a long time ago. Made the mistake of planting it out, a prolonged hard freeze got it. But we have not had that sort of weather for years. As they are so cheap here I might try again

Yeah, the weather sure does seem to be changing! When we first moved to Daytona in 1973, we had winters similar to what is experienced in zone 8 and as the years came and went the weather noticeably changed and we had much shorter periods of frosts and freezes and sometimes no freezes at all. A few years ago, the growing zone there changed from zone 9a to 9b. We now live (100 miles south) in zone 10a and who knows, in the not too distant future, it may be 10b. And there are many who say global warming is a hoax. Blinking

I don't think I would be able to ID it, unless it is a glaring difference, the actual patterning on most look a lot the same to me. But I would love to see yours!
There is a photogallery online somewhere, I have looked at it before.

I got 3 of mine from a Texas nursery and the other 2 from the late Bob Smoley.
