Anthers opening up (dehiscence) on Amaryllis

For an amaryllis flower to release pollen, the anther that holds the pollen must first mature and open. This splitting open of the anthers is called dehiscence.

Thank you for your info on pollination, I would like to ask you how to get the seeds collected and planted. I have a small collection from last year. Are they still good? Or shall I just throw out? Thanks, Rose

@willy123 How have you stored your seeds? Amaryllis seeds are short lived, but if stored properly they might still be viable. I like to store mine in a zip-lock bag in the fridge. How have you stored yours?
When I germinate them, I float them in water in a glass bowl or cup. If I use tap water, I age it a day to let the chlorine dissipate first. When Amaryllis seeds germinate, the root grows straight down. It is hard to see that root looking down from the top of the bowl. So I always use a clear glass or plastic container to float them, so i can look up through the bottom or side to see if they have rooted.
I would not throw your seeds out - try floating them in water first. Sometimes they root right away, but I have seen them take as a long as a month to root also.
