Valery, Those comparison photos were great. I didn't realize Ninja Warrior and Disguise were so similar. I have Disguise and was contemplating buying Ninja Warrior - now I don't have to. Thanks.

Disguise blooms very early. Ninja warrior turns on later. They bloom one after another. The Ninja warrior ripple is better. And Disguise has a brighter beard. Both are good.

Breeders have been seriously dealing with irises for only a hundred years. It's a short time to reveal completely different color variations. But there are also undoubted successes.

I wish the resources were formed! I don't have enough resources either. Back muscles are not ready enough for photography.

I have been going through Iris photos from 2019 and updating my Iris list for when they first bloomed. I ran into these pictures taken back to back and one is for sure Dream Lover but I really don't think they are all the same Iris. What is your opinion?

I think your variety is called differently. Doesn't fit the "Dream Lover" variety. The pattern at the throat is different.

To me, the first one looks like Gay Parasol, and the second one definitely looks like Stairway to Heaven. I have StH, and have often considered getting Gay Parosol.

I agree with Valery that neither looks like Dream Lover. The falls of Dream Lover are described as blue violet, whereas the falls of Gay Parasol are described as pansy rose violet - like what you have pictured. Were you perhaps sent the wrong cultivar? Your picture in the database for Dream Lover is the only picture of it showing the falls as rose violet. Perhaps a camera difference, but I am thinking the color disparity is too much. Having been the recipient in he past of numerous vendor mislabelngs, I can vouch for the fact that mistakes get made.

Thank you Valery and Daisy. So Daisy, do you think my picture of Dream Lover in the database is wrong? I got my first Iris's from 2 members on here back in 2016 and 2017 and not sure who mixed up. I got moving them around before they actually bloomed in the beginning plus my marking names was terrible. I just got Stairway to Heaven last summer so I can hopefully make a positive ID when it blooms.

I will try to acquire Gay Parasol so that I can compare the two. I think I will also try to get Dream Lover so I can compare it also. And when Stairway to Heaven blooms, I can compare it also.

Might I suggest that gardenglassgems' picture is of In your Dreams - registration says the beard is gold with a light blue end - this is IYD in my garden:


At the same time, this one was sold by the same reputable iris nursery as Stairway to Heaven


Either it's just another example of extremely similar registrations or mixups somewhere

If it works the same as with the other forums of this site ( i.e the Rose forum where I've made unwanted mistakes) you ought to just report to the forum moderator and they take care of it.
