Do we feel everyday normal grooming plants is a good thing for plants? Such as plucking back dead leaves and keeping the plants neatly groomed is that a GOOD thing for the some plants or would letting nature take it course be better?
I suggest some side by side comparisons with the plants at your house.

I've been advocating against all the constant pruning that people do... for a while... creeps me out when people come here asking for advise, and the first thing they are told is to start chopping up the babies!!!
My plants have always bitterly resented being cut on... to the point where I've had losses... Except for some rare shaping cuts on a potted tree, I leave my babies alone!
Now... about the soil dryness issue.... Better too dry than too wet. My plants had better figure out how to get by on not enough water...
