Hello everyone! Been over one year since I got my cuttings and I wanted to share/update everyone with their progress!

ONE YEAR?!?!! Let's see what's happened!

4 MAR update

Cutting No.1:

I ended up moving during this period and because of the plant transport I ended up with a huge spider mite infestation 🤦‍♀️ So things aren't as perfect as I'd like! Plus I'm getting used to the new lighting situation in my new home.

Overall I see lots of great root growth and I'll continue to update in the spring and into the summer! Hopefully these babies end up growing quite a bit more!

I had to make an account just to reply to this. Wow your journey is so amazing and such a ride as well, especially with the second cutting. All those months and finally roots and now a beautiful plant. So happy for you!

Hi there!! Idk if anyone can see this message or if I'm talking to myself but I came across this thread after noticing the same thing starting to happen to my albo. I got the cutting off Facebook marketplace and same thing the previous owner told me to stick her in distilled water and just wait well it's been a month and nothing has happened but today I noticed on both ends this browning and it made me super nervous. I have moss at home I plan on switching her over to and was wondering if y'all had any other advice for what I should do, thanks!! New to all of this!

Thank you all for contributing to this post!! I wish I had found this before I spent money on an albo cutting but I got excited, got in a hurry and definitely got ahead of myself. I'm now following all the directions here and hoping for a miracle. These photos are embarrassing but at least I know where I went wrong. I'll save all of you the gory details of my failures but she's now dipped in CAPTAN and sitting in a warm, super humid box. I took the leaf off and have cut rot from multiple spots. My mom says there is still hope so I'm going with it lol

Love that I found this feed. I got an albo cutting, it is black at the end now. I cut it off at the end and dipped in cinnamon for the time being. I'm trying to find the Captan powder in store or at least one that I can get in a few days but I'm not having any luck. I'm in southern California, does anyone know of another fungicide powder that's more accessible that I can try? Many thanks.

I believe I'm going to snip the first leaf. He was not a top cutting so nothing will grow out of him. I hope that this will give the growing portion of the plant some more energy!

This guy is the guy getting snipped today!

I'm a little sad/scared that I cannot move my plants outside this summer. They LOVED the humidity at my old home and would grow like crazy. Sadly, there are too many bug and wildlife dangers out here in the woods. I'm hoping I might be able to get some sort of small protective greenhouse. Hurray!

Hi everyone, Hi from Brussels (Belgium),

I love the previous posts on this forum and especially @Plantlove8's journey with @Gina1960 help, so I'm hoping for a miracle with perhaps a little help from you guys? I'm in Belgium and pretty much a beginner. I do have a few adult Monstera's that I take cuttings from, they root in water, and I swap them. Always works easily.

HOWEVER!!!!!

Since about 10 days I have 4 cuttings from the rare and crazy pricey (I should not have spend that money D'Oh! ) of the Monstera Adansonii Variegated. I put them in water.

And within 3 days, drama! All 4 cuttings were - I think - burned in the harsh sun one day. I was out at work for a long day and found them like this, with black parts on the green parts that are supposed to do all the photosynthesising :-/ The white part weren't harmed, but I'm well aware they contribute little to the plant's wellbeing. These burns are especially problematic for baby I and baby II, which have to so far best developed roots (yet, no root growth whatsoever since the cutting from mom... Some rotted roots already cut.)

EVEN WORSE: Baby III and baby IV already started to rot and I tried to do surgery. One was rotted in the stem became a wet stick. Baby III still has a good leaf. I can't cut any further cut and they keep rotting.

CURRENT CONDITIONS: They are now where the sun can't directly get to them, but 16h a day 1 meter away from a professional growth lamp. Humidity is consistently +70%.

Could you please give me some insights as to what to do to save my precious babies? Thanks so much!!!

How long after cutting of rot and spraying with fungicide (I used the spray instead of the powder) before placing in moss?

Thank you all for this help. Love reading the journey and support.

@jbagarinao Immediately 😊

@johannafrombrussels 🤕 those burns… if you're encountering rot I assume the best thing to do would be to put it in moss or add moss to the water slowly to avoid stressing the already stressed out cuttings. With IV lay it on top of moss and spritz with water. How are they doing now?

Hi there all.
Recently joined & this is my 1st comment on a post, with a question for @Gina1960 ::
I'm curious if you would post a photo of the soil mix recipe you've recommended for rooting a monstera variegata cutting here?
Thank You!

@Gina1960 , I was wondering if you could give me some advice on my Monstera Albo. I purchased a cutting from a woman on FB who didn't really know how to take care of it. It has a single leaf and has already been rooted in soil. But the soil composition was wrong and it was overwatered or lacking nutrients (some yellowing around the edge of the leaf). When I got it I kept it in the original container hoping that appropriate watering/humidity/light would correct the issue but the leaf continued to degrade. The yellowing spread a little and the leaf looks a little wilted. I've gone and repotted it in a mix of potting soil, perlite, and pumice (I didn't have and orchid bark so I hope this works) and put it in a terracotta pot to help with overwatering ( this made a huge difference on my monstera deliciosa) but during the repotting, I noticed something that seemed odd and I'm a little concerned.

The cutting has a single long root coming from the stem. It is thick and brown and I originally thought it was an aerial root. This root is about eight inches long and at the bottom, it has a mass of smaller roots coming off of it. There are no other roots showing up the root closer to the cutting. In addition, about two inches down the large root there was a soft spot. I originally thought root rot, but it was only soft on the outside, if I put pressure on it it was still solid underneath. Can you advise if this root system is going to be an issue? Should I trim back and restart?

I don't have photos as I was concerned about disturbing the roots after I just repotted it, but I can dig it up and take pictures if needed. It has been in the new pot for a week and I have seen no improvement (this is my impatience coming through).

21 MAR 2023 -
Hello again everyone! It's been about three years since I started this thread. Im not sure anyone reads this anymore but I thought I'd show you how my two crazy plants are doing:

Plant no. 1 is doing great!

Thumb of 2023-03-22/Plantlove8/bb0975

Thumb of 2023-03-22/Plantlove8/81b6d3

Plant no.2 is still giving me some trouble!

Thumb of 2023-03-22/Plantlove8/dba54c

we're loosing variegation on this one…again. I chopped this pant up about a year ago to see if I could save it from reverting to all green. Its babies either yielded all white plants or all green plants 🙄

This photo is of what was left of the mother plant. You can see that his most recent leaf has some white sprinkled in it but not very much white in the stem (where it matters). I was going to give the plant one more leaf to see if the white will continue on the stem. If not, it might be tim for another try at plant surgery and propagation.

Some more photos!

If anyone is out there in the void still reading this crazy saga leave a comment and say hi! 💗

Will update when more plant surgery happens!
