I don't think it is virus. Maybe some botrytis (fungal infection) and perhaps a nutrient problem, can't say for sure. This is an area I am not real good at. Hopefully someone else will weigh in.

It does look like a couple of stems are unaffected.

I don't see any evidence of virus. This could be brought on by environmental stress. Did they dry out badly, or get left in the hot summer heat that they are not used to? If this is the case, then they are going dormant prematurely, and will be back next season. But I think more likely is that affected stems have rotting bulbs. If you were to unpot them, I will bet that you will find those particular bulbs unhealthy. Usually, by the time the problem manifests to visual above ground symptoms, it's too late to try and save a rotting bulb. I would just discard and buy new. Bulb rot is usually caused by too much water, or too high temperature.

Or both! I have never been very successful at growing lilies in pots. That usually is a death sentence if they are under my care.

Thanks for your input. We have warmed up really fast this year..already hitting 90. Also tons of rain. I will un-pot and look at the bulbs. If no one thinks virus, I will plant in the ground the good bulbs.

Un-potted The lilies in question. The bulbs had lost outer scales that had already decayed/shed. Remaining scales are white and hard. No smell. Clean (Bleach water?) and replant? Help is appreciated.

The bulb looks fine. I don't see any rotting, and there is no need for bleach. I would just replant. The lilies will continue to wither above ground, but you will have healthy bulbs for next year. Now you can keep the non-growing bulbs in a cool place outside, regardless of how much light it receives. If you can dig the pot into the soil to taker advantage of the cooler soil temperature, that would be great. Dug into the soil is a good place to stay all winter, too, but when it starts its spring growth you will need to make sure it gets the light it needs.

Remember, when there are no leaves to support, the bulb won't use much water.

Thank you. I re-planted healthy looking plants in ground in one location and the ones that are dying back in another just in case there is a problem with them. Hopefully they come back next year.

I'm so upset to see my precious Lillies dying away before m y eyes this year. Some I have had for 8 years. My tree lily in particular has all of its leaves dropping off after having them turn yellow and marked with tiger striped markings. The first picture are of plants I bought last year and the second picture ismof 8yr old tree Lillies.
Any advice as what to do would be appreciated. Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
