Has everyone been admiring Zuzu's additions to the database? Too perfect and lovely to be true - almost.

Thank you, Porkpal. This cubit has been so quiet this month that I thought I'd start working on the database in earnest.

Do you suppose everyone's on vacation? Or are they just busy in their gardens?

It seems from our group, from Arizona, many of them have slipped back over to the other place. *sigh*

I do both, but the real rose knowledge seems to be here.

I just don't have hardly any rose pictures to post, and with spending 2-3 hours a day trying to control the weeds, plant crap, and not die from heat exhaustion (I just LOVE our weather forecasters.. they predicted 72deg on Saturday w/40% rain in the afternoon.. it hit 72 by 10am and I got fried at the Asian Boat Race Festival.. so trying to work in the yard on Sunday was painful. Forecasted for 75deg w/50% rain in the morning, and 50% in the late afternoon. Was already 81 when I got started at 10am, worked in long sleeves until about 1 when I was about ready to keel over from heat (had to protect my arms.. they're already burnt), didn't see a drop of rain and it hit 91 degs.). Ended up working last night outside between 7:45pm to about 10pm weeding and moving dirt.. couldn't hardly see, but I had to get SOMETHING else done otherwise I was gonna go bananas!!

But, I did get some neato plants this weekend! I got 3 Bridges Penstemons (http://www.plantselect.com/pla...), 1 Royal Blue Lobelia (http://plants.usda.gov/java/pr...), 2 Pikes Peak Penstemons (http://www.plantselect.com/pla...), 1 Orange Carpet Hummingbird Trumpet (http://www.plantselect.com/pla...), Two Firewitch Dianthus (http://www.bluestoneperennials...), 4 Blue Chip Bellflowers (http://www.denverplants.com/pe...), 5 New England Purple Asters (http://www.wildflower.org/plan...), a Yankee Doodle rose, a Artistry rose, 2 Gallo Red blanket flowers (http://www.skagitgardens.com/i...), and 2 'Red Caroline' delphiniums (http://www.redbarnperennials.c...). I just HAD to have those two.. I'd never seen a red delphinium before! I can't wait to put these in the ground!!

Those Delphiniums do look amazing, Toni. I've never seen them either and I would have to buy them if I saw them.

I can't imagine why people would go back to the old site, Alan. The atmosphere over there seems to be growing more oppressive by the day.

I've been keeping tabs on the rose forum there, Porkpal, and you're right: It's mostly a lot of questions and a lot of misinformation being offered to the people asking the questions. We do have some great members here, who are knowledgeable but don't try to make it sound like rocket science. Some of our people who were among the most active before are missing, however. Sue's busy with her move and Mike's been on vacation, but what happened to Steve and Angie and Steph and...?

Maybe it's just a seasonal thing, but it is disturbing. We were the leading cubit in two categories -- Gardening and Specific Plants. Now we're not even in the top five in either category. Maybe things will pick up when it's time to start buying roses again for next season.

I'm going to guess that everyone's busy because it's summer vacation, taking vacations, keeping kids out of trouble, etc. Then you have people like me, who have no life and am on the computer 24/7 it seems like sometimes. :)

Zuzu - would you believe I got those delphiniums as the big hex pots at Lowes? They were $17/ea. Do you want a couple? I can send you a few (yesterday they had like 10 plants left).

Gosh, no, Toni. I'll check the Lowe's here. But what did you already send me? There's a notice in my mailbox to pick up a "leaking parcel" from you at the postal annex. I'm going there in about an hour. I hope it isn't live fish. Smiling

Well, I picked up my "leaking parcel," and because Thalia and I were on the way out for our weekly dinner and shopping excursion, I just pulled back a corner and peeked inside. The box was stuffed with a plant, like a big block of turf, but some kind of mint by the look of it. I was a little surprised, but when I got home I found out what it was very quickly. Roger almost attacked me on the way inside, leaped on the box, and started drooling and rolling all over the box and the floor. It's catnip! A big box of catnip! Such a wonderful surprise, Toni. Thank you so much!

*chortling with glee* Catnip is one of the extremely few things that I cannot kill, no matter how hard I try. Seriously. I canNOT get rid of it.. none of my co-workers or DHs co-workers want any more. The amount that I shipped to you was about 1/2 about what I had already given away earlier this year.. and it almost doens't look like I got rid of any! I never feed it, I never water it, and it just keeps coming back year after year. it's a nice weed, but it is EXTREMELY tough and likes it hot and DRY. It's actually in one of my rockbeds. I knew that it was the killer stuff as whenever I bring any inside, my cats immediately go bonga bonga blooey for it.. drooling and rolling around and whatnot. Unfortunately, though, one of my fixed male cats.. well, he gets a little randy whenever I bring in catnip and tries to hump all the other cats, much to their dismay.

If anyone else wants any live catnip, just let me know!! Smiling
