Crow Poison. Yes, technically it's classified as a weed. But for me, it's a trip back in time.
When my daughter (who is now 50 years old) was in kindergarten, I would wait in the car to pick her up after school. She'd come out and run around the playground to pick the pretty white flowers. Clutching her bouquet, she'd race to the car and hop in the front seat to present me with her gift. (This was before kids were banished to the back seat and seat-belts became mandatory). With the faint fragrance of garlic filling the air, we'd drive home and put the flowers in a vase to admire while enjoying cookies and milk.
Every year when the crow poison blooms, I am transported back to that simpler time. It always makes me smile. Smiling

Thank you for sharing such an endearing memory. I can see why a little girl would be drawn to such delicate blooms and consider it a gift to her Mother; and that gift has endured all these years, longer than any material gift may have. The photography is absolutely perfect. A garden can be an album of beautiful memories.

You're right, Fleur. So many of the plants I grow (and even those that pop up unintentionally) evoke memories of loved ones. Four O'Clocks remind me of my Great-Grandmother, so I always have them in my garden. When I was young, she would allow me to hand water them in the evening while she watched from the porch swing. That fragrance is never forgotten. My mother loved ferns - so I do too. And I have several plants that were gifts from friends that serve as a special remembrance. There's a special bond between plants and people that sometimes turns into a legacy.
