I found some seeds in a paper bag that wintered on my screened in porch and sprinkled them over some potting mix in a plastic clamshell.. I figured what the heck.. it was that or throw them out in my spring cleaning...
I put them in an East window in a bright room (11 windows, north, east and south sides)
the only problem is my windows are old and drafty and night temps are still low in NY. Temps in this room probably range daily from 55-70, depending on outside temps. I don't have a heat mat. I recently read that soil temp needs to be over 70 for germination and 80 is ideal! So is this wasted space? (I do have other things I can start).

However, I also recently read that canna tubers won't grow until the soil is 70 degrees or better, and some of the bare roots I potted up 3 weeks ago In the same room are 4-5 inches tall already..

I had petunias sprouting in my worm bins in the garage. Heat was set at 49 degrees at night, and set at 65 when I was working in there.

Thanks Rubi. You are absolutely right. I've got about a dozen poking up already.
