I have lots of canna indica, old ones with red flowers. Do hummingbirds get alot of value from these? I am deciding how much to find room for based on wildlife value.
Plant it and they will come.

When I had cannas the hummingbirds did seem to like the ones with the smaller simpler flowers. I doubt they could easily access the nectar in the big ruffly flowered varieties. Here's a photo I took of one at Canna indica 'Red Stripe'. If you're limited on space though I think something that has more flowers for its size would be better. The cannas take up a lot of space foliage wise for not having many flowers. I had stop planting them after the japanese beetles came to town and started turning the leaves to lace.
