Thread OP
Fox Valley, Wisconsin
want to update the landscaping in the front of my house. Looking for ideas for layouts or types of bushes/plants that will compliment my curb appeal of my home. I live in Wisconsin. The front of my house faces North. Where the plants are going to go is shaded by the house for most of the day. They would get some early morning and late day sun. Do not like the evergreen bushes currently there and I am willing to replace all the things that are currently there. Hostas seem to grow well here.

I know there are a lot of people on here that are better than me when it comes landscape design. I can't wait to hear ideas for plans.

Can you post a pic of the entire front of the house area, like maybe from across the street or something, with the front yard in it as a whole.
Next, can you reverse the drawing so that it is as if you are standing in front of the house, instead of looking at it from inside the house/porch side.

Also what are the trees in the front, I am guessing a type of maple?

The first is to help with the lawn. Try growing out the lawn and don't cut it super short. Keep it long. This will keep the grass filled with nutrients, reduce disease, and keeps weeds from growing.

Second, the plants in your rock bed in the front aren't looking too stellar. I would replace it with hedges. if you want to take the rock out and replace it with mulch and flowers that would also look beautiful. I would work on that first then start the next phase. Hurray!
