60 degrees with light clouds high forecast for low seventies with eighties for the next two days.
Still up North and the plumber finally arrived for -- hopefully -- the last day to work on Sharon's Apt.

Praise the Lord I seeded most of the boulevard hill yesterday as we had a fairly steady rain last night after sundown.
I filled in the Badger hole as there was a spider web covering he opening and he dug it for what ever reason and seems to have moved one; not sure but I think I had one do that twenty some years back also.

There is a slough about one-third of a mile from here so they have more secure place to live than here two blocks off of down town.
Potatoes are still green and tomatoes are still producing new fruit but at this point in time it is more of a hemorrhoid than blessing.
Did run home to get the trailer so I could haul a bathroom cabinet from Home Depot and found powerdery mildew on the squash vine there but at this poing I may or may not treat it.

It looks like I lost two new roses at home, so I will have to see if they had a warranty of any sort. I tip my hat to you.

Our temps are all over the place right now - 45°F one morning, then 68° the next, with highs anywhere from mid 60s to high 70s. I'm still harvesting lots (some might say too many) of cucumbers, zucchini (got lucky with the vine borers this year), and tomatoes, and just starting to pick the peppers (a lot of which will get frozen and pickled). The pole beans - which have already given us more than enough to freeze to last us for the winter - are starting a second flush of flowers, so if the weather holds out for a while we should get quite a few more beans.

We had quite a thunderstorm come through last night and early this morning, one thunderclap and lightning flash around 11 pm last night were practically simultaneous (and extremely loud) and I suspect a nearby tree must have been hit. Years ago a big spruce in the corner of our yard (40-50 feet away from the house) was hit by lightning and there were wood chips from it scattered all over our deck Blinking

What lighting chooses to hit is quite odd some times, now I know it is basically physics but 50 years ago one of my friends house was hit by lighting.

Now it was just a one story house and back then the neighborhood was full of tall trees, mostly oaks and elms and his house had trees near on all sides but one.
It hit the East side and started a small fire, fortunately they were home and put it out but still it is odd it by-passed trees that were fifty feet higher than the house. Shrug!

At Noon it is 70 degrees and partly cloudy with a very light breeze.
The plumber is finally finishing up today and had done a good job but very sporadic as far as time use.

I should mow the lawn but the grass is slow to dry now that truly warm weather is gone, probably dig some more weeds and do a bit more re-seeding.
One week of summer left. Sighing!

We're still seeing hummingbirds and Monarchs (not that we've had a lot of either one this year) - the hummers are usually gone by the first official day of autumn, or soon after, and the Monarchs will no doubt be gone around the same time. Maybe our resident turkey will still be around though - she's been very entertaining this summer!

70 degrees and sunny again with a breeze.
Supposed to hit high 80s today and walking outside the warm air makes one know it gonna be a heater today.

Big Threshing Show at Albany this weekend so the last go around of summer is here.
I am listening to Farm Radio and they were speaking of all the changes for this year, used to be another one near here thirty years ago but when the old man died the boys held one more and called it a day. I tip my hat to you.

Well it is Three O'Clock now and 86, time to go out side and do some work.

It looks like we may have had our last day with a temperature in the 70's (F); but 60s are nice and even 50s are pretty acceptable if it's sunny out, so that's okay with me Smiling

Still so much to do with the garden - I have a LOT of peppers to pick and do something with, I'll probably make a few pints of refrigerator pickles with some and freeze most of them to use later on; and then there are the carrots to dig and get stashed away, and beets to dig and can (that is the job I dread most, I really hate the mess that I always manage to create with beets!). The next couple of days I'm planning to spend trying to get the weeds under control so we can mulch with leaves and grass clippings... and the garlic will be need to be planted in the next few weeks as well. And happy to say that I've still been seeing female hummingbirds at our feeders, but I'm sure they will be gone soon.

Happy autumn equinox tomorrow!

We still have a few 70's days left in the forecast and I'm excited not to have had a frost yet. We finally have gotten enough rain for some of the grass to come back although we'll probably have to reseed some next spring. I still have peppers and carrots to harvest too and the broccoli is still going good. I've gotten enough to freeze some but mostly we eat what we get. There are still tomato's going but the birds are opening them up as they start to turn so I don't know if I'll have anymore.

I've been taking cuttings from coleus and a few other plants and bringing in my soft succulents. I planted the pots in the ground today with plants that I'd separated and potted up. Several hosta, huechera, Jack Frost Brunnera , and some painted ferns and a few other plants. I gathered some seeds from some petunia's and pansy's that I really like and a seed head from an Only the Lonely nicotiana. There must have been seeds in the soil that finally came to the surface and germinated because I used to grow it in that area years ago.

I'm sure enjoying the cooler weather. Happy autumn to everybody

Thanks for the reminder, Susie - I almost forgot about the broccoli that I planted after harvesting my garlic, I know at least a couple of the plants are ready to harvest crowns from!

Day #2 of my weeding marathon - about half the garden is done now and I am feeling much happier! The outside temp was 62°F when I started right around noon, and was down to 56° when I came in at 5 pm. Plus the wind was blowing out of the north at around 15 mph. Saw (and heard) quite a few flocks of sandhill cranes heading south - they certainly had a good tailwind for it today! It looks like we might not have any freezing temps anytime soon - although Marquette (about 60 miles north of me, and right on Lake Superior) had a frost warning last night.

74 and sunny.
Heading home in a bit to work on the garage and the garden; supposed to be low eighties next three days.

Good weather now for reseeding as seed I put in up North and did nothing is now sprouting well.
Former apt. of a nut job is now ready for renting and a vet. has signed the papers.
Put in two new faucets last week in spaces made for some one 100 lbs on a wet day and found out cetain muscles not used do not like to awakened. Rolling on the floor laughing
If I would keep doing this , they would get used to it. I tip my hat to you.

Beautiful day here today and I intended to do some things outside but the Asian beetles are back in force. They are worse this year than I can remember them being except for the first year that they were around. They were so thick and trying to crawl all over me to the point that I was spending more time brushing them away than doing anything else so I gave it up and I'll try to get out right away in the morning and hope they aren't out until it gets warmer.

We are suppose to be in the eighty's for a couple days this week too but I'm not excited about it because it dries things out so fast and we are still way below normal rainfall.

Happy 1st day of October, everyone! Turned out to be a beautiful day here, sunny, with a high temp of 70° and just a slight breeze. (I wish it could stay like this for a couple more months...)

I harvested some broccoli that I planted after my garlic came out at the beginning of August (I started the seeds about 6 weeks earlier) - very happy that keeping the plants covered with tulle kept the cabbage butterflies (and therefore the cabbage worms) away - not a sign of even a tiny worm in the salty water that I soaked the stalks in, or the water that I blanched them in. I still have 4 more plants to harvest, probably in a week or two - and by then there should be some side shoots as well.

Thumb of 2021-10-02/Weedwhacker/ba9f39

And a photo of the hen turkey that has been hanging around our place since spring - she just recently started getting up onto the deck and the railing, and picking around in the flower boxes (which are looking pretty sad now, but the bees are still frequenting them so I haven't dumped them out yet).

11 days from my 69th birthday; I can live with that but one year and eleven days from now I will hit Seventy and my shoulder length hair will all fall out as I will be really, really, really old.

49 and cloudy with a brisk wind at Two Twenty Four P.M.
Wearing a long sleeve shirt for the first time since spring but still wearing shorts; one week left of fairly warm weather before a true cool down and possible frost.

Time to bring Sharon's warm weather plants in next week and even though now , with fairly frequent rain the gardens are wet I will have to get busy and shock the corn , pick the last tomatoes and chiles plus start getting ready to deal with the roses.

It is fall and cool weather is the norm but weather pages show cloudy weather when it cools down which makes it more annoying. Thumbs down

It looks like we have a couple more nights that are "safe," then the temps are going to be dipping near, if not at, freezing. (I have to think the full moon has something to do with that!) Everything is pretty well done anyway, peppers have all been pulled out and we've started pulling out the tomato plants - which I expect to finish tomorrow, along with planting the garlic. We've had a pretty nice stretch (at least a week) of dry weather, and Wednesday is supposed to be rainy, so it should be perfect for tilling up the garlic patch and getting that taken care of.

After fertilizing the pole beans back around the end of August, after they had pretty much "shut down" - with no more flowers or beans on the vines - I think we have picked at least as many beans as we did earlier in the season (and since I already had plenty frozen for the winter, we have given a LOT of beans away!).

Looks like tomorrow is going to be a beautiful day to spend in the garden - the high is supposed to be around 70°F so it might even be warm enough to have a cocktail on the deck after the gardening chores are finished! nodding

No hummingbirds ?! Blinking Crying

I saw more sandhill cranes flying south a couple of days ago - this seems unusually late but I might be wrong about that (might just be wishful thinking that they are leaving late and that means winter isn't going to start for a while!).

I have one more pile of garden debris to bury and a few other tid-bits to do and my gardening is done for Two Thousand Twenty One.

I wore long pants for the first time since May today but did a lot of garden work yesterday in shorts and short sleave button down shirt; It is fine if you keep going but take a break and it gets cool quickly.

It is 39 right now but it is supposed to hit the sixties this week-end.
