Does anyone else have a hard time finding just the right yellows? .... I'm especially hopeful to see if descriptions of your posted yellows make it possible to match a daylily with the eye-of-the-beholder's desires... so far, very few yellows have ever made my heart melt ... but I've seen enough amazing yellows to know there must be some to fit everyone's fancy!

I love yellow myself, but am not too crazy about gold or what my neighbor calls school bus yellow. I don't have any real real fancy ones but here are a few I like.

Cindy, you got to the heart of my confusion about yellow ... and thanks for all those helpful daylily pictures! Whenever I try to settle on a yellow that might fit with my other colors ... I get awash in petals that range from beige to ivory to green to school bus orangey to burnt gold...often even to light lavenders, pinks, peaches and beyond. Shrug!

Is it possible that yellow is like daylily blue ... not a natural occurrence? Maybe it really is only species Gold and Red after all, and hybridizers are just gifted with teasing out all the colors in-between.

But then ... I see the next picture, like Big Smile, and I think ... well, that's got some true pale yellow in it! Whistling

What do you think is your yellowist yellow, with your own eyes on the garden? Group hug

I've got two that are a beautiful yellow. These look exactly like this in my garden.

A light yellow that is pretty, is Big Time Happy. It's too short for me though, and I've sent it to live with my Dad. He said it was gorgeous this year.
Thumb of 2012-09-04/Natalie/930b07

Cool it is another one that is light. This one no longer lives with me either, but not because it wasn't pretty. I had to make room for some newer daylilies
Thumb of 2012-09-04/Natalie/ddc8ad

Another that I can't find a picture of is Hyperion. It's one of the oldest registered cultivars, but I really love it. It's a very light yellow, and smells wonderful. I used it for hybridizing 2 years ago, trying to pass along it's good smell, and the seedlings smelled even better than it did!

I love the yellows and I just HAVE to start out with my absolute favorite - SPACECOAST IRISH ILLUMINATION. For me it is a perfect pure yellow with just the faintest hint of gold in it, but also green too. It stays brightly colored all day long, has terrific substance, is tall with lots of blooms, I love love love the edges, and i just can't say enough good things about it!

SPACECOAST IRISH ILLUMINATION

Another one that I planted in a front flower bed this year that I think has beautiful sunfast flowers is
BROWNS FERRY SUNLIGHT

Here are another two that are nice mellow yellows for me, and they do fade a little bit in afternoon sunlight so they are even more mellow, but still very attractive.

LIMA - Sorry, but I usually take my pictures in the morning so I don't have any "faded" pictures.

FLORIDA'S GARDEN LIGHT

BUTCH AND BARBARA'S CRACKED EGGS - This is a truly beautiful yellow, very mellow, and I love the edges here in our heat. Most of the beautiful edged daylilies don't look the same in our heat, but this one does!

DESERT ANGEL - I have to give special mention to one of Lyle's first introductions because it is a most beautiful daylily! And it's a mellow one too...
Thumb of 2012-09-04/Betja/fa78c9

ELOQUENT CAY - Very reasonably priced on the Lily Auction and a wonderful golden toned beauty! And what a difference between sunshine and shade in the pictures!
Thumb of 2012-09-04/Betja/53bf63

SUNSHINE ALL DAY - Another of my favorites, very pastel and pleasing. It's a beaut!

I also posted some pictures of yellows with a hint of green in them in the green thread, if anyone is interested.

Edit: I almost forgot another of the more mellow yellows.
EMBOSSED TREASURE

These are all (except for maybe the first) what I consider to be more mellow yellow daylilies. I'll get back later with some bold golds, but I have to get some work done first...

Don't have many yellows as I prefer reds, oranges, and purples. But did receive these three yellows from Blue Ridge as bonuses and I love all of them.

Solar Music. HUGE substantive blooms and fragrance. Nice lemony yellow with some green undertones.

Double Concerto. Deep peachy gold in the shade.

Cool ... I think I am getting into the "groove" of yellows that stay true, or flash different hues, to delight both in ways ... and that are dancing around and brightening up gardens of all colors. Cooooool! Group hug

Nice to see all these nice pics of different yellows as I'm always looking to add to my list. I like yellows as long as they're not too bright. I think every garden needs a little yellow to balance things out.
Betty, that's a nice selection of yellows that you have. I really like the looks of SPACECOAST IRISH ILLUMINATION, BUTCH AND BARBARA'S CRACKED EGGS and EMBOSSED TREASURE.

I like this thread because I only have about 3 yellows, and the only one that bloomed was H.Citrina, which I just love. It is a very old one, hybridized in the late 1800's I believe. I have been watching for yellows because I need some of those glowing ones to offset all of the deep colored dayliles I have. Haven't really found others that have caught my eye, but this thread will help that

Looks like I have a whole lot more yellow than I remembered.

I forgot I have the Citrina, too, Jan, if that is the one commonly referred to as Lemon Lily. Bought from Earlybird. Hasn't bloomed for me yet, but looking forward to it. Robin was generous with the fans, so they are in several locations. Smiling

Irish Elf. Got from Robin, too. Short scapes and very small blooms, so good for in front. Very cute.
