I see that there are many entries in the data base that have "Million Bells" as part of the parent name. I think Million Bells is a Proven Winners Trademark name and it would not be appropriate to use it with the MiniFamous calibrachoa varieties (for example). I think the only varieties that should have the Million Bells name is the actual Proven Winners Million Bells varieties. This is the same issue with Proven Winners "Supertunias"

Anybody can change it by just clicking on "Edit plant name" and remove the name from the common name field.

I could script it but we don't want it removed from all of them and I can't think of a way to write a script that would exclude some while including others, at least in this case.

The Calibrachoas database: Million Bells (Calibrachoa 'Cabare Cherry Rose')
Cultivar names:
(0) Cabare Cherry Rose
Common names:
(0) Million Bells
Botanical names:
Calibrachoa

Why does the system display/put the common name before the botanical name & variety in brackets?

That's just the format we settled on long ago. I'm not opposed to changing it.

I'd rather see the botanical name first. Particularly since some plants have so many common names! Just my 2 cents..... Smiling

I've added a few new calibrachoas and it appears all new entries of calibrachoas will have "Million Bells" in the data base names. I would rather the common name not be included in the name of the variety.

I agree

A search brings up the plants by any of the common names or synonym names anyway.

Joanne, the automatic addition of "Million Bells" to all new Calibrachoa entries as a common name is something that must have been programmed by Dave earlier at someone else's request or suggestion. Dave can change it if you don't want that name to be added.

Hi Joanne,
This is the Parent entry of Calibrachoa: Calibrachoas (Calibrachoa)

Any common names or other data which applies to all Calibrachoa can be noted here by proposing Dave modify the entry. (see The thread "Misc. Parent Plants" in Plant Database forum for examples.)

Once this entry is modified to your liking all Calibrachoa additions to the DB will include these data and names automatically.

There are now 363 varieties of calibrachoa in the Plant Database. Got any pictures? If so, please submit the images.

The detailed Plant Data (plant height, spread etc) is the next step. My fingers hurt from all this data entry today, so that will need to be another day. Anyone want to help?
If so, I will send you the links where you can find this information.

Thanks Evan,
We cross posted. Yes I see how all the new entries are auto tagged with "Million Bells" as a common name. I don't like it, but maybe others do. It is a fairly new plant genus and the 1st that were available were Million Bells trade name and that's why Million Bells has stuck as a common name.

Flower Time: Summer, Late summer or early fall
Uses: Groundcover
Attracts Bees
Attracts Butterflies
Attracts Hummingbirds
Propagation: Other methods: Cuttings: Stem, Division
Containers: Suitable in 1 gallon, Suitable in 3 gallon or larger

or whatever is appropriate.

If all that information is added to the Parent Plant for Calibrachoa, it will automatically be added to all the other entries for Calibrachoa.
