Has anyone ever thought that Muscari (Grape Hyacinths) might just keep voles at bay? I'm thinking, maybe. I have a bed of mixed lilies--pretty good size--about 30 ft by 15 ft with about a 6 in wide, thick, well colonized Muscari border. I've never seen voles or mice tunnels/runways in there after the spring snow melt like I do see in other gardens around here and I'm thinking maybe it's the Muscari. I know about the use of mini Daffs by many people, but I don't have any Daffs in there at all.

Any thoughts?

I don't have a Vole problem ( yet ) but if they did anything for rabbits I'd plant them everywhere! Although nothing I have in the front garden near the Muscari ever seems to get eaten. I wonder if they'll keep chipmunks at bay?? Grumbling

I read where someone mentioned muscari in addition to daffs as keeping voles away.

Good news for my garden. We have it all over.Big thick patches I'll just scoop up a few and toss in with lilies when I plant the lilies.

That's a great idea, I have large clumps too.

Is this along with the 170 daffs you are going to toss in, Jo, LOL.

Well, Jo Ann and Polly, It might just be a coincidence, I don't know for sure but I strongly suspect it might keep voles out--that's why I asked the question if anyone else has noticed any such relationship. Voles are a real problem here but I can honestly say I've seen no evidence of any sign of voles in there for the last 15 or 20 years but I have seen little tunnels and runways all over the place in my other gardens where I don't have muscari.

Here's where I saw it, go about 1/2 way down the page. I also see nepeta on there. I have nepeta near everything, so that could be why no vole damage for me.
