I've just got a Boston fern and am a planting novice so hoping you can help. I want to hang it in the bathroom and think it would look lovely in a terrarium. Would this be suitable for a fern or should I have a pot with drainage? Could I put the fern in the terrarium with some rocks for drainage? Thank you!

yes, it would be ok for a terrarium , but keep in mind that Boston ferns get very large. There are smaller houseplants mere suitable. If you put the fern in a terrarium, please keep in mind you will have to move it to a much larger one fairly quick.

Thank you for the warm welcome and also for the advice. Perhaps I'll get a large terrarium to be on the safe side. It will look lovely hanging in the bathroom!

Stones within a terrarium do not create drainage! Why? Because no water actually drains from the terrarium.
Boston ferns love humidity, that is true. It will do very well in a bathroom with the humidity providing it gets light from somewhere.
It has been my experience that terrariums are an art in and of themselves. I just don't know just how much success that beginners can really expect. Boston ferns can get to be very large specimen plants. I don't see them doing well long term in a terrarium.
At a good garden center, so many of them carry smaller plants which might be more suitable for terrarium growing. Have you done research on terrariums at all?
Good luck with your project.

I've not ever put stones in a terrarium. The main thing to remember about them is that if they are set up right, they water themselves. Yes, they are tricky to get right.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It's been really helpful as I don't really know what I'm doing yet! I'll just go for a hanging pot instead and bear in mind that it will likely need to be changed to a bigger one in future.
