Before this year, I knew I had to have the correct spelling to find a rose on HMF, but this year the default option on the search page is "best match." It has been quite useful at times, but I just used it to look up Rainbow Knockout and was told there's no such rose. I then searched for "rainbow" with the "begins with" search option and learned that the name of the rose is Rainbow Knock Out. Please tell me how any "best match" software could fail to match "Rainbow Knockout" with "Rainbow Knock Out."

I don't really understand anything computer-related; makes as much sense as usual to me. - Which means not at all...

I am spoiled on the DG PlantFiles search so HMF can get frustrating. Most of the time I just do a portion of the name, that is, if it has more than one word, like I use just 'Rainbow'.

I noticed the changed search engine and had similar troubles. I guess they need to fine tune the programming or something. I do like the "starts with..." feature. Makes life easier for us lazy typists. I joined hmf, finally. I used it so often, I thought I better contribute to its existence.

Our own database here in our cubit doesn't like hyphens in the search box. If you enter a hyphenated name, it's likely to tell you the rose isn't there even if it is. I personally prefer searching for roses on the actual pages of the database because I get excited seeing how many of the entries already have photos.
