Hindsight is everything. Like ripping out all the hard wire garden patio lights and putting in some new fancy solar ones, only to realize that those darn things won't charge on the North side or heavy shade areas.

This year's blooper: I hung a bird feeder off the over hang of the garage right beside my calibrachoa hanging basket. It was only of those bell shaped seed suets.
Not only was is super easy access for the squirrels to get too, I also provided them the ultimate chair - The hanging basket. I think one squirrel ate the entire thing in one day. The Basket still looks a little low in the middle. Won't do that again.

The year Dad wanted to replace the screen on the gazebo. Mom also wanted to put down some landscape fabric under the pine trees.
Can you see it coming? Yup...we used Dad's screen as the landscape fabric... didn't find out until Dad went to put the new screen up and it looked kinda different...

To me that sounds like an easy mix-up to make... plastic screen and landscape fabric does look somewhat similar.

This year I put up one of those tent type greenhouses. (a plastic tent over a rack)
It is maybe 4 feet by 6 feet. I crowded ten tomatoe plants into it.
Of course when the tomatoe plants grew ---it is way too crowded.
Next year I'll just do 4 or 5 plants in there.

Well, I have never had rabbits to deal with and so when I saw a baby and mother rabbit in the spring i didn't do anything. Thank goodness this is not at my home but were our garage is. I had some coleus that got too cold and I put that out for them. Big mistake, I think they called all the relatives to the property, we got a easy mark guys!. They ate all the hosta, daisies. I have been planting extra things there. We I bught something that smells like garlic, the beasts are gone. Maybe there is another soft heart down the street.

When I first tried to provide drainage for a new raised bed, I just dug out a hole down-slope from it.

I thought far enough ahead to know that water would flow downhill (out of the bed and into the hole).

But it didn't occur to me that water flows downhill ... and then stops.

So I dug a trench the full length of the dirveway and around a tree to get to the part of the yard that runs away downslope.




This, dumb as it was, is still smarter than the people who built the park. They had dug a similar trench that I uncovered as I dug. However, their genius-level design had water flowing UPHILL to get olver a tree root.

Water doesn't flow uphill very fast or very often.
