I don't know why, maybe someone here has seen this? A lot of my roses are blooming.. squished? roses. The blooms are actually oblong! They look squished & are ugly. This has been a crappy year for my roses. You'll have to excuse all of the spent blooms. It's too late in the season to deadhead anything. I stop deadheading in Sept so the roses can get ready for their winter's sleep.

Your roses look quite lovely to me! I don't know why a few are oddly shaped but that doesn't ruin their appeal. I wish my roses looked half as good!

That I why I quit growing HTs. They open lopsided. Daylilies open crooked if it's too cool, I wonder if your cool nights are causing this?
All your pics look better than my roses. Your White Licorice in particular is beautiful.

Zuzu, would it be possible to re-title this thread so that it more accurately reflects the contents?

I think that these are competent and accurate photos of roses blooming in Toni's garden (and Joanna's, too), and that many of these photos depict very desirable roses. Even where we might judge the rose itself to have flaws, those flaws are typical of the roses they depict and helpful in making judgments about those cultivars. I would suggest 'candid' vs 'posed' in speaking about the state we find a rose to be in when we photograph it. There is also a state in which a rose is gussied up by removal of petals and so on and then photographed in artificial conditions. This we might call a 'glam shot.' Perhaps this thread is better titled September Rose Candids.

you listening, Toni? You grow beautiful roses and you should be proud of them.
I love the photos, especially when you show more than just the blossom. I've bought many roses based upon your photos of your roses! I tip my hat to you. I tip my hat to you.

I was looking all over for my ugly thread.. I guess "Candid" does sound more PC than Ugly.

Just a few pictures this morning. I am getting a "new" camera (used) this weekend, so hopefully I can take some pretty pictures as these pictures are HORRIBLE. I took like 20 shots & only like 5 are somewhat decent. My lense was all filthy.. everything came out blurry. But I did pick one heck of a bouquet for my office.. the last one for the year.

Hawkeye Belle (I highly recommend this rose) & Strike It Rich & Harlequin
