Thank you Pam. It is on Rock Solid, that is the best daylily I have ever grown in my harsh climate, this was only it's second year and it bloomed beautifully, nice strong scapes, it had a few poly blooms over the summer.

Teresa, yes but I haven't had it long.

Margaret, It won't necessarily make poly babies. The plant carries the same genes whether it blooms poly or not and they dictate. That being said, I hit poly blooms with pollen given the chance just because I think they're "lucky".

Leading the Polymerous Revolution!!
Margaret, no, you should not expect any poly seedlings by crossing an errant polymerous bloom with another standard daylily. All daylilies have the ability to throw an occasional, or once in a lifetime, poly bloom but that individual poly bloom does not increase the likelihood of producing polymerous seedlings.

However, if you used pollen from a recognized high percentage poly on that errant bloom then you may produce some seedlings with a great propensity to express the polymerous trait. This would be the same whether you were crossing onto an errant poly bloom or normal bloom on the same plant.

The best way to ensure success in producing high percentage polymerous daylilies is to breed high percentage polys with each other.

If you have have not already, I hope you will obtain some polymerous daylilies and start hybridizing with them. We really need as many people as possible working with the polys to advance the development of this form.

5 Chamber Seed Pod from SWIM BIKE RUN which I expect will yield all high percentage polymerous daylilies!!

Bobby, do you find that the plant habit, bloom form or any other trait is carried more with one parent than the other? For example, I have heard that a plant is more likely to inherit its plant habits... Bud count, branching, disease resistance ... from the pod parent. I wondered if poly is a trait that also passes best from the pod parent?

I love this thread. And I have only one or two that are supposed to be poly, but nothing yet, Heck, my couple of doubles don't double, either (or rarely do). Even though everything is in new beds with enhanced soil, I think I will follow Leslie's advice and try increasing the fertilizer - see if that helps.

I would love to have more polys... guess that may be what I "collect" next season! ~Jan

Jan, that advice is for FL! It would be different in your area. FL has a much longer growing season than you do.
